Qatar Tells Hamas Leaders to Leave Following Trump’s Reelection

President-elect Donald Trump may not take office until January 20, 2025, but his impact is already being felt around the globe. Following his reelection, a wave of changes—both domestic and international—are reportedly underway. Markets surged, and some controversial domestic policies shifted, signaling a return to Trump-era governance. Now, a significant foreign policy development has been reported: Qatar is expelling Hamas leaders from its territory.

Domestically, Trump’s reelection has already sparked dramatic shifts. The stock market celebrated, with the Dow soaring past 44,000 and the S&P 500 hitting record highs. Legal battles tied to Trump also saw sudden changes, with special counsel Jack Smith dropping charges in one case. In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams announced plans to end food vouchers for illegal immigrants after a conversation with Trump, reportedly prompting migrants to abandon caravan plans. These developments mark a return to Trump’s hardline stances on immigration and economic strength.

The most surprising news, however, comes from the Middle East. According to Israel’s national broadcaster Kan (referred to as Kann News in a social media post), Qatar has told Hamas leaders residing within its borders that they are no longer welcome. This move marks a sharp departure from Qatar’s previous role under the Biden administration, where it acted as a mediator while providing safe harbor for Hamas leadership.

While the White House has not confirmed these reports, the timing suggests Qatar may be preemptively adjusting its stance in light of Trump’s return to power. The country has likely calculated that maintaining its previous leniency toward Hamas could invite significant consequences under the new administration.

Republican lawmakers have been pushing the Biden administration to adopt a tougher stance on Qatar’s harboring of Hamas leadership. Senators Roger Wicker (R-MI) and Jim Risch (R-ID), along with 12 GOP colleagues, recently sent a letter to the State and Justice Departments urging immediate action.

“The defeat of Hamas is within reach, and ending the safe haven that its leadership enjoys abroad is vital to defeating it,” the letter read. The senators criticized Qatar’s role in facilitating Hamas leaders’ operations, including hosting Iranian officials and opposing ceasefire negotiations.

“It is long past time the administration ask Qatar to freeze Hamas leaders’ assets, shut their access to international media, end their ability to host foreign visitors, and prevent them from traveling abroad,” the letter continued.

With Trump’s victory and the GOP poised to take control of the Senate, Qatar’s leadership likely recognizes that the status quo is no longer sustainable.

Political analysts and commentators have coined the term “Trump Effect” to describe the immediate and sweeping influence of Trump’s policies—even before he officially resumes office. Townhall’s Katie Pavlich highlighted how Trump’s mere presence as president-elect has already shifted global dynamics.

Under the Biden-Harris administration, critics argue, adversaries perceived the U.S. as weak, leading to bold actions by groups like Hamas and their state sponsors. Trump’s reelection signals a return to a tougher, more unpredictable U.S. foreign policy, forcing nations like Qatar to reconsider their alliances and actions.

While Trump’s opponents have often warned of chaos under his leadership, his supporters argue that strength and decisiveness deter bad actors. Qatar’s decision to expel Hamas leaders could be the first of many international shifts as global powers brace for a stronger U.S. presence.

The coming months are likely to bring further developments as Trump prepares to take office. Whether it’s domestic policy or international relations, the “Trump Effect” is already reshaping the landscape, and for many, it signals a return to stability and strength.

In the words of Trump’s supporters: the real adults are back in charge.
