DOJ Warned Biden About ‘Problematic’ Pardons, Potential Release of Violent Inmates

There’s been quite a stir over President Biden’s blanket pardons, and it seems like not everyone is on board. Some folks inside the Justice Department, like Associate Deputy Attorney General Brad Weinsheimer, are saying there’s a big mix-up with the directions on who’s getting these commutations. It looks like the vague instructions could lead to releasing prisoners who might not exactly fit the non-violent bill President Biden talked about.

Weinsheimer pointed out to the White House that if they don’t clear things up, the whole commutation process might be a bust, especially with a change in administration. He’s concerned that the new team might interpret the warrants in a way that doesn’t align with Biden’s intentions. Essentially, without a clear description, these pardons might not hold water.

The Oversight Project got its hands on some internal emails and made them public, shedding light on these concerns. Weinsheimer was upfront, saying Biden might have been a bit misleading by claiming that only non-violent offenders were affected. The language used made it sound like none of these offenders had violent pasts, which isn’t entirely true.

In the emails, Weinsheimer mentioned that even with a limited review, they found several cases that were troubling. He noted that some individuals up for clemency had serious violent histories, including crimes like murder and assault. It’s unclear if President Biden knew all the details when making these decisions since the Justice Department was kept mostly out of the loop.

Among those granted clemency were individuals with pretty serious backgrounds. There’s Russell McIntosh, involved in a horrific crime to protect his drug business, and Steven Fowler, who ordered a brutal torture, just to name a couple. These revelations are causing quite a bit of backlash for the administration.

Adding fuel to the fire, there’s controversy over the use of an autopen to sign these commutation papers and other official documents. Republicans in Congress are questioning whether it’s even legal to use an autopen for such serious matters. House Oversight Chairman James Comer has raised concerns about the validity of documents signed without the President’s knowledge.

Comer has been vocal, saying it’s questionable if Biden even knew what was being signed with the autopen. This whole situation is making people wonder about the President’s involvement and awareness of these actions. The use of an autopen, especially considering the former president’s mental state, is under scrutiny.

This situation has opened up a can of worms regarding the administration’s processes and transparency. Some believe that not knowing what’s being signed is a legal issue, and it raises questions about the President’s decision-making process. The whole thing is a bit of a mess, and Republicans are itching to get to the bottom of it.

As the drama unfolds, it’s clear that more questions than answers are popping up. The Justice Department’s concerns highlight potential flaws in the administration’s approach to clemency. It’s a classic case of good intentions possibly going awry due to poor execution.

The entire ordeal is a reminder of the importance of clear communication and transparency in government actions. Without these, even well-meaning actions can lead to unintended and potentially harmful outcomes. The administration is facing pressure to provide clarity and ensure such issues don’t arise in the future.

There’s a lot riding on how the White House addresses these concerns. The public and officials alike are eager to see whether the administration can navigate this sticky situation effectively. The Biden administration has some explaining to do to regain trust and demonstrate accountability.

While the controversy simmers, it’s becoming a critical test of leadership for President Biden. Republicans are likely to continue pushing for answers and clarity on this issue. The outcome could have significant implications for the administration’s credibility moving forward.
