The discovery of a woman’s remains in a freezer inside an abandoned East Oak Cliff house has led to a murder arrest in Dallas. Neighbors, video evidence, and a witness who used sign language all played roles in piecing together what authorities describe as a violent end for the 27-year-old victim.

Police moved in after a neighbor raised the alarm, saying people living at the empty property and drug users nearby had been talking about a body. When officers searched the Georgia Avenue home they found a freezer in the master bedroom containing human remains, a scene that immediately shifted the case from rumor to homicide investigation.

Forensic teams had to thaw the remains so the medical examiner could perform an autopsy, which concluded the victim died from multiple stab wounds, including a wound above the eye that reached the brain. Detectives noted visible bloodstains on the bedroom walls and carpet, evidence that suggested the violence occurred inside the room rather than the body being moved there later.

Investigators also found a large military-style knife that had been wrapped in cloth and a towel and hidden inside a hole cut into the drywall. That weapon, along with the blood patterns, became a central piece of the case as detectives worked to match what they found to suspect statements and digital records.

The victim was identified as 27-year-old Maria Murray. Authorities later arrested 51-year-old Kendrick Brown and charged him with murder after collecting multiple pieces of corroborating evidence during interviews and a digital forensics review.

Brown initially denied knowledge of the room or the freezer, but detectives recovered videos from his phone showing he had been inside that bedroom on several occasions. Those clips also appeared to document a relationship between Brown and Murray, which contradicted his early denials and added motive context for investigators.

A resident who had lived at the house provided a crucial eyewitness account with the help of an American Sign Language interpreter. That witness described frequent physical fights between Brown and Murray, saying they often threatened each other with knives, and recalled seeing Murray lying on the closet floor in the bedroom days before she was reported missing.

He added that Brown once yelled at him, shut the door of the room, and the witness never saw Murray again. Hours after the body was discovered, the house was reported to have caught fire, an event that complicated the scene and raised questions about attempts to destroy evidence or conceal the crime.

Police documented the timeline, physical evidence, witness statements, and the content found on Brown’s phone to build their case. Brown is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail with bond set at $250,000 as the investigation continues and authorities prepare formal charges.
