Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson said Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom had made himself “an utter buffoon” during a Tuesday episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.”

Newsom has raised his national profile as he’s been conducting interviews to promote his book and frequently criticizing President Donald Trump amid speculation that he may launch a 2028 presidential bid. Hanson listed incidents on his Daily Signal show that he said were inconsistent with Newsom’s office and criticized his record as governor. “Now he is so pandering … he has made himself into an utter buffoon. He went to the Munich Security [Conference]. Remember, he said, ‘You get on knee pads’ — that was an obscene reference — ‘when you kiss up to Trump.’ And then he said that he suffered from dyslexia,” Hanson said. “And then when [Republican Texas Sen. Ted] Cruz said, ‘No, you’re historically illiterate,’ and then he said, ‘How dare you make fun of my dyslexia?’ Then he insulted black people and said that basically, ‘I’m stupid like you.’”

const observer2 = new MutationObserver((mutations) => { const adDivToHide2 = document.querySelector(“#dailycaller_incontent_2”); if (adDivToHide2 && dc_noads_page) { adDivToHide2.classList.add(“hide-premium”, “hide-free”); observer2.disconnect(); console.log(“Ad div2 found and hidden”); } }); observer2.observe(document.body, { childList: true, subtree: true });

Newsom faced criticism in February after telling a black mayor he related to him because he only got a 960 on his SATs and “cannot read” at an event to promote his book.

Hanson also criticized Newsom for likening Israel to “an apartheid state” and accused him of “masquerading as a poor boy.”

“But then you think, can I ask you five questions? Why is gas going to be $8 a gallon after you drove out two big refineries and we don’t have the gasoline? Why has the Los Angeles power woman finally been fired and we still haven’t rebuilt Pacific Palisades?” he asked. “And you just endorsed Karen Bass, that incompetent nincompoop for mayor, who was in Uganda while her city was burning … Why do we have one-fifth to one-fourth of the population under the poverty line?”

const observer3 = new MutationObserver((mutations) => { const adDivToHide3 = document.querySelector(“#dailycaller_incontent_3”); if (adDivToHide3 && dc_noads_page) { adDivToHide3.classList.add(“hide-premium”, “hide-free”); observer3.disconnect(); console.log(“Ad div found and hidden”); } }); observer3.observe(document.body, { childList: true, subtree: true });

Journalist Katie Couric also cited additional statistics about California during a Thursday interview on “Next Question with Katie Couric.”

“The highest poverty rate tied with Louisiana, the highest unemployment, and as Nick Kristof of the New York Times recently wrote, Mississippi schools outperform California schools, especially for poor kids,” Couric told Newsom. “Now, people see that or hear that or read that and they’re like, ‘No thanks, California. No thanks, Gavin Newsom. We’re good.’”
