Vicente Gonzalez Campaign Spent Big On Disney, Travel Abroad

• Campaign cash questions around travel and luxury spending
• A public clash over donor money and personal benefits
• Disney World charges tied to campaign records
• Overseas trips, spouse travel, and mixed-purpose expenses
• The political stakes in a competitive South Texas race

A fresh round of scrutiny is swirling around Rep. Vicente Gonzalez after his own campaign spending lined up with a string of flashy trips, pricey meals, and hotel stays. The Texas Democrat had criticized a rival over what he called a donor-backed “good life,” but records and social posts now put his own travel habits under the microscope.

The most eye-catching example came from a Disney World trip Gonzalez posted about in April 2025. Around that same period, his campaign reported more than $1,100 paid to Walt Disney Resorts, while the congressman shared photos with his wife and others and wrote, “DC to Disney! What a fantastic 2 days,” on Facebook.

That Disney episode was only part of the story. Federal filings reviewed by Fox News Digital show campaign spending that stretched from Washington and Texas to Europe and the Middle East, with charges for airfare, hotels, and restaurants that read more like a luxury itinerary than a typical campaign trail.

One of the biggest line items came during a 2024 trip to the United Arab Emirates. Gonzalez’s campaign reported more than $13,000 in airfare and hotel costs, and he later described the getaway online as an “after campaign break,” even as the posts showed sightseeing, a beachside luxury hotel room, and time with his wife.

The same pattern shows up in other countries too. In Zurich, Gonzalez posted a photo with his wife in August 2025, and campaign records later reflected a Swiss Air charge along with a $395 restaurant expense at La Rôtisserie, a one-Michelin-star spot in the city.

Rome also made the list. His campaign filed a $442.41 travel expense at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel during the same week he posted a photo meeting Pope Leo XIV, adding another layer to the debate over what counts as official travel and what starts looking awfully personal.

Gonzalez’s office says the spending was proper and disclosed, pointing to federal rules that allow campaigns to pay travel costs when they are tied to campaign activity or official duties. His campaign manager also said the Disney trip was connected to a Financial Services-related visit with Rep. French Hill, and argued the overseas travel served official purposes as well.

Still, the line between business and pleasure can get blurry fast, especially when family members are along for the ride. Campaign money can cover a spouse’s travel in certain circumstances, but only when the spouse is performing a real official role, and not just tagging along for a cushy escape.

That issue matters even more because Gonzalez has been aggressive in calling out opponents for similar behavior. In October 2025, he mocked Republican Mayra Flores with the line “living the good life on donor’s resources again,” after highlighting what he said were campaign-linked Disney charges in her orbit.

Now the spotlight has swung back. His own filings show separate Disney payments of $561.38 each, plus additional spending at upscale restaurants and resorts, including The Capital Grille in Washington, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood in Houston, Ojai Valley Inn in California, and Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa in Pennsylvania.

The political stakes are no small thing either. Gonzalez is fighting to hold his South Texas seat against Republican Eric Flores, and the race has turned into a closely watched battle with national attention and a clear cash advantage on the Democrat’s side.

Every new travel receipt gives voters more to chew on, especially when the images online and the spending records seem to rhyme a little too neatly. That tension is exactly why the campaign finance trail keeps getting louder, and why Gonzalez’s next move will matter just as much as the last post he shared.
