OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated area inside ChatGPT for private health and wellness chats that promises not to feed health data into its core AI training. OpenAI says Health conversations are excluded from training its core models by default, and the company highlights extra isolation and encryption for sensitive data. That promise matters because many people already use ChatGPT to interpret lab results or to plan questions for a doctor. Privacy is often the deciding factor when someone chooses an AI tool for health topics.

Files, chats and memories in Health live in their own container and do not mix with standard ChatGPT conversations. You can opt to connect medical records and wellness apps so replies can be grounded in your own data rather than broad generalities. Those connections aim to make answers more relevant without spilling that information into other areas of your account.

You control what is connected and can revoke access instantly if you change your mind. Disconnecting an app or removing permissions is presented as a straightforward user action inside Health. That granular control is central to how OpenAI frames the feature.

ChatGPT Health is built to inform and prepare, not to diagnose or replace a licensed clinician, and you will see reminders that its responses are informational only. The product includes explicit limits on clinical claims and leans toward prompting escalation to a healthcare professional when answers could affect care. Treat it as a tool for context and conversation prep rather than a substitute for medical judgment.

OpenAI developed Health with input from more than 260 physicians across many specialties worldwide, and that group reviewed examples and flagged wording that might confuse patients or delay care. Their involvement shaped safety, clarity, and escalation behaviors built into the space.

The practical benefits are real: Health can gather scattered records from portals, PDFs and apps into one place so you can review trends, prep for visits, and ask clearer questions. That kind of context helps you use appointment time more efficiently and can make follow-ups more productive. Still, the tool’s job is to add clarity before you see a clinician, not to perform clinical decision-making on its own.

Caution still matters even with stronger privacy controls; avoid entering highly sensitive identifiers or anything you would not want stored anywhere, and remember that AI responses can be imperfect. Health is designed to help you prepare and organize, but systems meant for identity protection and formal medical records are not the same as a conversational AI. Use discretion and double-check important information directly with providers.
