Midland, Texas Police Charge Three In Trailer Murder Case

The discovery of a dismembered body in a Midland County home prompted a detailed investigation that led to three arrests and multiple murder charges. Law enforcement followed reports, conducted interviews, and uncovered a series of conflicting accounts about what happened inside the trailer where the victim was found. The case remains active as authorities continue piecing together who did what and why.

On May 11, someone contacted the Midland County Sheriff’s Office with a claim that a murder might have occurred at a residence. Deputies responded with a welfare check and found a secluded property with covered windows, large dogs, freshly dug trenches, and several RV parking spots, but no one answered the door. Investigators later used phone numbers tied to the home to try to get people to meet, but at least one person agreed and never showed up for the arranged meeting.

Officials focused early on 31-year-old Victor Esparza, who initially alerted authorities about the possible killing. When interviewed, he seemed disorganized and gave details that did not line up consistently. Despite that, he provided a cell phone and recordings investigators said linked him to others at the scene.

Esparza described people being brought from a motel to the trailer, where methamphetamine use was underway, and said a dispute over money was at the heart of the confrontation. He claimed that Sandra Ramos picked up him and the victim and that a FaceTime call brought in a second suspect who later arrived at the property disguised with a bandanna, sunglasses, and a hat. According to his telling, violence broke out once everyone was inside.

One passage in the affidavit states exactly what Esparza allegedly told investigators: “Esparza told police that Ramos held him at gunpoint and forced him to shower and change clothes — and then tried to make him dismember the victim’s body with a hacksaw, the affidavit stated.” That dramatic claim became a key detail investigators had to test against other evidence and witness statements.

Another person who was at the residence gave a markedly different account, telling police that Esparza himself assaulted the victim and stomped on him until he lost consciousness. That witness also said Ramos and Esparza strangled the victim to death, which directly conflicted with parts of Esparza’s version. Investigators had to weigh these competing stories against physical evidence gathered at the scene.

When deputies returned on May 12, they forced entry to a locked room and discovered a large wheeled storage bin. A portable air conditioning unit in an adjoining bathroom was positioned to blow directly on that bin. Inside, they found human remains identified as an adult male who had been dismembered, according to court documents.

The affidavit lays out an allegation in clear language about how the victim was killed and what was done to the body: “by shooting the said person with a firearm; by cutting and stabbing the said person with a knife; by striking and hitting the said person about the head and body with a baseball bat; and dismembering the victim’s body and placing the remains into a storage bin.” Those words reflect the charges that followed and the severity of what investigators say occurred.

Arrests came quickly after the discovery. Ramos was taken into custody on May 12 and Esparza was arrested on May 13; both were booked into the Midland County Detention Center and held on $2 million bonds. A third arrest followed on May 14 when 49-year-old Jose Luis Garcia Grimaldo was taken into custody and charged in connection with the incident.

Grimaldo told detectives he had confronted the victim, later named as Victor Nunez, at the residence and struck him with a baseball bat before leaving while the victim was still alive, according to court records. Despite that statement, he faces a murder charge and an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon allegation and was held on a $2.25 million bond. Authorities continue to sort out the timeline and each person’s role as the investigation proceeds.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is handling the probe and the case is ongoing as detectives gather more evidence and interview additional witnesses. With multiple versions of events and serious felony charges in play, the coming weeks will be crucial for investigators and prosecutors building the prosecution. Court proceedings and further police actions will determine how this tragic, violent episode moves through the justice system.
