Our (baby boomers) generation had our “bad guys” in school, but never to the level that we see today in schools. We had consequences for being bad in class. The teachers were the ones to be fearing, not the students.
These kids are not taught to respect but that they must be respected. More ignorance in education!!

It’s both the parents and the school’s fault. When I was in school, I was kind of a rabble rouser. I pushed the limits but, the one thing I didn’t want to have happen was for the school to call my mom. I took a couple of raps from teachers, a little grabbing of the hair or sent to the office. I’ll take the school’s punishment, just don’t tell my mom. Mom would rain down her rathe with a belt, or what ever she could pick up that was handy. But mostly I didn’t want to embarrass my parents by my behavior. Teachers could jack you up, and they did. There were no school shootings then either. So we have history to show us which methods work and which don’t. Yet we continue to go further away from what works.
I’m a former school teacher and I can state that physically intervening during a fight is a huge mistake; for two reasons.
First, the teacher can be injured. Second, one of the fighting students, or other students, could be injured which would open the teacher and/or the school system to a lawsuit. The correct course of action would be to tell the students “STOP FIGHTING!” several times. Sometimes that actually works. If the fight continues then the fighters are guilty of disobedience, on top of the fighting itself.
