Poll Finds Students Growing More Open To Political Extremism

A troubling new poll is putting a spotlight on how some undergraduates are thinking about America, history, and political violence. The numbers are ugly, and they raise a bigger question about what happens when campus culture stops teaching basic civic reality and starts flirting with excuses for hate.

One of the most alarming parts of the survey is how openly some students were willing to say the United States brought the 9/11 attacks on itself. That is not a minor opinion gap. It is a moral collapse wrapped in a political slogan, and it shows how far a slice of young people have drifted from common sense.

The poll also points to a broader pattern of radical thinking among students, especially around socialism and other hard-left ideas that treat America like the villain in every story. When that worldview takes hold, everything gets twisted into a blame game, and even mass murder can get washed through a fog of excuses.

That matters because these attitudes do not stay locked inside a classroom. They shape what students cheer for, what they excuse, and what kind of politics they carry with them after graduation. If a growing number of undergrads can shrug at extremist rhetoric or rationalize violence, that is a warning sign, not a quirky campus debate.

The reaction to the poll is also part of the story. Many Americans see results like this and feel the same mix of anger and disbelief, because 9/11 is not some abstract historical footnote. It was a day of terror, loss, and national trauma, and treating it like an object lesson in anti-American grievance is warped beyond recognition.

Campus environments are supposed to sharpen young minds, not dull them. Yet the poll suggests that too many students are soaking up a version of politics that prizes resentment over responsibility, and slogans over facts. That kind of thinking makes it easier to excuse bad actors, especially when the target is the United States or the values that hold the country together.

There is also a broader cultural problem underneath all of this. When political identity becomes a religion, every issue gets filtered through loyalty tests, outrage, and victim narratives. Students end up learning that being provocative matters more than being right, and that is how ugly ideas start sounding sophisticated.

What makes the poll so jarring is not just the answer itself but the confidence behind it. A young person who says America deserved 9/11 is not making a nuanced critique of foreign policy. That person is repeating a destructive idea that turns barbarism into justification, and that should set off alarms everywhere.

These results fit into a larger national fight over education, ideology, and whether institutions are willing to push back when students absorb poisonous politics. The country cannot afford to pretend this is harmless teenage rebellion when it is really a sign that anti-American sentiment is getting normalized in places that should know better.
