HSI Raids Ilhan Omar Home Amid Fraud Probe

The controversy around Rep. Ilhan Omar took another sharp turn after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home and her husband was later seen returning to the residence. The developments landed in the middle of a broader web of scrutiny, with questions now circling immigration paperwork, financial disclosures, and an ongoing federal probe that is still drawing new attention.

Tim Mynett, Omar’s husband, was captured on camera outside the home a day after Homeland Security Investigations agents carried out the raid. He was walking a yellow Labrador when he headed back inside, a quiet-looking moment that still carried a lot of political heat given what was unfolding inside the investigation.

The search itself came early Monday morning and was tied, according to two sources familiar with the matter, to a criminal fraud investigation involving Omar’s immigration paperwork. That paperwork was reportedly completed by her late father when she was a child, which gives the case an old, complicated backstory that is now suddenly back in the spotlight.

At the same time, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said her office is also looking into Omar’s financial disclosures, especially the reporting of the couple’s shared worth. That adds another layer to an already messy situation, because the questions are no longer just about one issue, but several threads that keep crossing each other.

The money side of the story has been drawing attention for months. Omar’s 2024 financial report showed a broad asset range for her and Mynett, but later filings appeared to shrink that picture in a dramatic way, especially when it came to Mynett’s business interests.

In earlier records, his ownership stakes in a winery and a venture capital advisory firm were valued in the millions. In the newer filing, those same interests were listed at zero, which naturally raised eyebrows and fueled the sense that the numbers were not just changing, but changing in a big way.

Omar’s office has pushed back before, saying Mynett has partners in both businesses and that the original filing reflected the full value of the companies rather than his ownership share. It also said the earlier report did not properly account for liabilities, which is the kind of detail that can make a balance sheet look very different depending on how it is framed.

The timing has only made everything more intense. Omar’s finances came under deeper scrutiny around the same period a Minnesota fraud scandal involving members of the Somali community was gaining traction, and the overlap has kept her name in a steady stream of headlines.

Pirro’s announcement also marked a fresh stage in a long-running fight over Omar’s public records. The Office of Congressional Conduct had dropped its own misconduct inquiry in September, but that did not end the pressure, and the new federal review has now reopened the spotlight in a big way.

Mynett has long been part of Omar’s political orbit. He worked with a firm connected to her 2020 reelection effort, and the two announced their marriage in March 2020, which tied his business profile directly to one of the most watched members of Congress.

Omar’s personal history has also kept feeding the public drama. This is her third marriage, and critics have never stopped revisiting the allegations surrounding her first marriage, with opponents claiming it was tied to an immigration scheme involving a man many said was her brother.

The investigation has also pulled in comments from senior Trump administration figures, including White House border czar Tom Homan, who first signaled a criminal probe into Omar. That led to speculation the case might center on the older marriage allegations, though a former federal prosecutor said the statute of limitations would make that path difficult to pursue.

DOJ officials have said the search warrant used in Monday’s raid was judicially authorized and tied to an ongoing federal investigation. That leaves plenty of room for more questions, and in Washington, a case like this rarely stays quiet for long.
