Measles Exposure Confirmed At LAX, Hilton Hotel June 11

The county announced that a traveler with confirmed measles passed through Los Angeles County on June 11, potentially exposing people at the Tom Bradley International Terminal and at the nearby Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel; health officials are tracing contacts and advising anyone who was present during the specified windows to watch for symptoms through early July. The case arrived on an international flight and is the sixth measles infection reported in the county this year, raising concerns as summer travel and major events bring more visitors to the region. Public health teams are working to identify and notify those who may have been seated near the infected passenger and to reinforce vaccine guidance.

Officials say the traveler was aboard Cathay Pacific Flight CX 884 and passed through Los Angeles on June 11 while infectious, which created potential exposure in the Tom Bradley International Terminal between 10 a.m. and noon that day. A separate exposure window was identified at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel, located at 5711 W. Century Blvd., between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The specifics are meant to help people check whether they might need monitoring or medical advice.

Health authorities note that anyone present in those locations during the listed times could develop symptoms between seven and 21 days after exposure, so monitoring runs through July 2. Symptoms to watch for include fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, followed by a rash that typically begins on the face before spreading to the rest of the body. If symptoms appear, people are urged to contact a health care provider right away and to avoid exposing others.

The county is treating this as a public health priority because measles spreads easily among people who are not immune, and gatherings tied to travel and sporting events can accelerate transmission. With international visitors arriving for events in the region this summer, officials say the chance for exposure grows whenever infectious cases pass through crowded airport terminals or hotel common areas. Contact tracing and notifications are underway to limit further spread.

“As measles cases increase, it is important that residents take steps to make sure they are fully protected,” Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said. Public health messaging centers on prevention and early detection, and local teams are emphasizing that vaccination reduces both individual risk and the burden on hospital and clinic resources. The goal is to blunt chains of transmission before they can seed larger outbreaks.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is coordinating with local health departments to notify passengers who were seated near the infected traveler on the international flight, and local teams are reaching out to possible hotel contacts. Those notifications aim to provide guidance about symptoms, testing, and quarantine or isolation when needed, especially for people at higher risk like infants, pregnant people, and those with weakened immune systems. Rapid communication helps people get care and helps officials track any emerging cases.

Vaccination remains the central tool for prevention; public health experts recommend the MMR vaccine as the safest and most reliable protection against measles. Clinics and providers can advise on vaccination status, booster needs, and steps for those who may have been exposed recently. For residents who are unsure about their history or need documentation, health departments and primary care practices can assist with records and recommendations.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health did not respond immediately to requests for additional comment. In the meantime, travelers and locals who spent time at the Tom Bradley terminal or the Hilton hotel during the listed windows should monitor their health through July 2 and reach out to medical providers if symptoms develop to reduce the risk of spreading the infection further.
