Trump is moving fast to put a bigger federal spotlight on artificial intelligence, announcing plans for an “AI Force” and signaling that a czar-style adviser is on the way. The message was simple and unmistakable: the administration wants the U.S. to lead the AI race, not slow it down.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump framed AI as a huge economic engine and made clear that the White House does not intend to stand in its way. He said the government would avoid smothering the industry with restrictions, while still using existing civil and criminal laws to deal with bad actors.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” the post read. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!” The tone fit Trump’s usual style, direct and full of confidence, with a clear nod to speed, scale and American dominance.
Trump also said the new effort would work much like Space Force, which he created during his first term. He added that a future AI “Czar” would be named soon, though no names, job description or formal structure were offered.
That lack of detail leaves a lot to be sorted out, but the broader signal was easy to read. Trump is betting that AI should be treated like a strategic national asset, not a problem to be boxed in before it has a chance to grow.
The timing matters too. Lawmakers in Washington are still arguing over how much oversight AI should face, and the debate has split even within the Republican Party. Some want strong guardrails, while others worry that too much regulation will kneecap innovation before the country can cash in on it.
Trump came down hard on the side of growth. Earlier in the week, he rejected new calls for tighter government control, arguing that heavy-handed rules could weaken America in the contest with China and slow down an industry that is moving at breakneck speed.
He also leaned into the economic upside, floating the idea that AI could one day account for as much as 25% of U.S. GDP. That figure was presented without a source, but the point was obvious: Trump sees AI as a massive driver of wealth, jobs and national power.
“AI is the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP,” he wrote. “We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!”
That kind of language taps into a familiar Trump theme, competition first, hesitation last. He cast criticism of AI and data centers as part of the same old pattern of people trying to slow progress before the benefits are fully understood.
At the same time, the White House is not pretending there are no risks. Trump said existing legal tools can be used to respond to wrongdoing, which suggests the administration wants enforcement without building a giant new wall around the technology.
He also opened a separate post asking people to weigh in on what AI should actually be called. The options he floated included Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence and Supreme Intelligence, turning a policy moment into a pop-style online poll.
“Many people think that the words “Artificial Intelligence” are inaccurate, and very inelegant, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence. A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomena would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI),” he wrote. “This is a Poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever growing “Revolution?” President DONALD J. TRUMP”
The rollout shows how Trump is trying to shape the AI debate before it hardens into bureaucracy and fear. The administration is making a loud case for speed, competition and American advantage, while the details of the new force and its czar are still waiting to be filled in.
