Top Border Official Announces Resignation as Biden’s Term Ends

Troy Miller, the acting leader of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) during most of President Joe Biden’s administration, has announced his retirement effective at the end of December. His departure marks a significant transition for CBP, the nation’s largest federal law enforcement agency, amidst a tumultuous period of record-breaking illegal border crossings and internal discontent among Border Patrol agents.

Miller, who held the position of “Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner,” never received a formal nomination for commissioner. His replacement has yet to be announced, but President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed his pick for the role: Rodney Scott, a former Border Patrol commander and frequent critic of the Biden administration.

A career official, Miller maintained a low profile and focused on law enforcement over partisan politics. His tenure was defined by efforts to strengthen border security through technology and collaboration. Notably, he led initiatives to expand advanced scanning systems at official border crossings, helping to intercept record amounts of illegal fentanyl and other contraband.

Miller also played a pivotal role in reshaping border security operations post-9/11, including the establishment of the National Targeting Center in Virginia, which centralizes the assessment of incoming passengers and cargo. Before assuming the acting commissioner role, Miller managed CBP’s New York field office, overseeing operations at one of the country’s busiest hubs.

Despite his achievements, Miller’s time as CBP leader coincided with unprecedented challenges. Between 2021 and 2023, illegal crossings from Mexico averaged over two million per year—the highest levels ever recorded.

Rodney Scott, a veteran Border Patrol leader, is set to replace Miller as CBP commissioner, pending Senate confirmation. Scott retired in 2021 and has since become a regular commentator on Fox News, where he has criticized Biden’s border policies.

Known for his hardline stance on immigration, Scott is expected to align closely with Trump’s ambitious border agenda. His appointment signals a dramatic shift in CBP’s leadership style, reflecting the administration’s priorities for stricter immigration enforcement and a fortified border.

President-elect Trump has made it clear that securing the border will be a top priority when he takes office in January. Trump has pledged to launch the “largest mass deportation operation” in U.S. history on his first day in office, targeting millions of undocumented immigrants who entered the country during Biden’s presidency.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s national campaign press secretary, emphasized that Trump’s victory gives him a clear mandate to deliver on his campaign promises.

“The American people delivered a resounding victory for President Trump, and it gives him a mandate to govern as he campaigned,” Leavitt said. “This includes, on Day One, launching the largest mass deportation operation of illegal immigrants that Kamala Harris has allowed into this country.”

Tom Homan, Trump’s former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was named the administration’s “border czar.” In a recent interview, Homan provided insight into Trump’s deportation strategy, emphasizing targeted enforcement over indiscriminate sweeps.

“It’s not gonna be a mass sweep of neighborhoods. It’s not gonna be building concentration camps. I’ve read it all. It’s ridiculous,” Homan said. “They’ll be targeted arrests. We’ll know who we’re going to arrest, where we’re most likely to find them, based on numerous investigative processes.”

Trump’s plans also include pushing for legislative reforms to solidify border security measures, making them harder to reverse by future administrations.

Despite his tough stance on illegal immigration, Trump has reiterated his support for legal immigration, a position echoed by many Republicans. In a recent interview, he stated:

“We obviously have to make the border strong and powerful, and at the same time, we want people to come into our country. We want people to come in legally.”

Trump has also outlined plans to expedite energy permits, reduce inflation, and negotiate peace between Ukraine and Russia—all priorities linked to his broader strategy for national security and economic stability.

With Miller stepping down and Scott poised to take the helm, CBP is entering a new era of leadership and policy direction. Miller’s tenure reflected an emphasis on technology and operational efficiency, while Scott’s leadership is likely to focus on enforcement and alignment with Trump’s immigration policies.

The transition comes as Trump prepares to implement sweeping changes to U.S. border policy, including mass deportations and fortified border infrastructure. These efforts are expected to face both logistical challenges and legal scrutiny.

As the nation watches these developments unfold, the future of U.S. immigration policy remains a focal point of political debate. For CBP, the coming months will be pivotal in defining its role under a new administration committed to transforming the landscape of border security.

Looks like a lot of the ass-kissing Obama dictated “leaders” of our alphabet agencies are running scared before the Trump administration comes in with a wrecking ball and takes down their failed agencies. Mayorkas should be taken to Guantanamo for some serious questioning about the corruption within the Biden administration. All of these Establishment sellouts never thought Trump would get reelected and now that they know he is coming they are scurrying off into the shadows in hopes of not getting stomped like the cockroaches they truly are.
