Senator Calls for DOJ Probe into Anonymous Pizza Deliveries to Judges

Some judges are experiencing a bizarre form of harassment: pizza deliveries sent in their names. This strange method aims to intimidate judges by revealing that those behind the pranks know personal addresses. Senator Dick Durbin, a prominent Democrat, has called for an investigation into these deliveries, believing they pose a threat to judges and their families.

These deliveries have even reached the homes of Supreme Court justices and their relatives. One unsettling aspect is that some of these pizzas have been ordered in the name of Daniel Anderl, the late son of Judge Esther Salas. Daniel was tragically killed in 2020 by someone pretending to be a delivery person, making these recent incidents even more chilling.

Judge Esther Salas, who is based in New Jersey, discussed the matter on MSNBC in April, revealing that numerous judges have received these pizzas, sometimes late at night. She stated, “What does that say to those judges? It says, ‘I know where you live, I know where your kids live, and do you want to end up like Judge Salas, do you want to end up like her son?’” The intent behind these deliveries is clear intimidation.

Senator Durbin highlighted that these incidents threaten not just the judges and their families, but also the broader judicial system. He stressed the importance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) taking action to identify and prosecute those responsible. Durbin urged officials to act swiftly and transparently in their efforts.

Durbin’s call to action includes requesting updates on any ongoing investigations and immediate steps to protect the judges and their families. The DOJ has not yet commented on the situation, leaving many awaiting their response. Meanwhile, Attorney General Pam Bondi, when approached by reporters, mentioned she was just becoming aware of the issue.

Bondi, speaking outside the White House, stated that she had no immediate comment but assured that there would be a response soon. Following this, Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel held a press event related to an entirely different matter. They discussed the arrest of over 200 individuals involved in crimes against children, but did not address the pizza delivery threats during this announcement.

The deliveries have sparked concern, with the underlying message being deeply unsettling. The fact that personal addresses of judges are being used in such a manner raises questions about security and privacy. The judicial community is on edge, seeking assurance from law enforcement agencies.

Durbin’s letter to Bondi and Patel emphasizes the need for accountability. He is advocating for a thorough investigation to ensure that those behind these acts are brought to justice. The judiciary must be able to operate without fear of harassment or intimidation.

As the situation unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of judges and their families. The demand for action from the DOJ and FBI reflects the seriousness of these threats. It is crucial that investigators get to the bottom of this to prevent any potential harm.

While the DOJ remains silent, the public and the judicial community are left in suspense. The urgent need for intervention is clear, and the hope is that a resolution will soon be reached. Protecting the integrity of the judicial system is of utmost importance.

The chilling nature of these deliveries cannot be overstated. Knowing the addresses of judges and their families is a serious breach of privacy and safety. The response from federal agencies will be closely watched as the situation develops.

The broader implications for judicial independence are significant. Maintaining a system where judges can preside without fear is essential for upholding the rule of law. Thus, the pressure is on for law enforcement to act decisively.

As the investigation progresses, there is a collective call for transparency. The public and the judiciary alike want to know what steps are being taken. Ensuring that judges feel safe in their homes is a priority that cannot be underestimated.

The bizarre tactic of using pizza deliveries as threats is unprecedented. It highlights a new level of intimidation that must be addressed. The response from authorities will set a precedent for how such threats are managed in the future.

Durbin’s push for action reflects a broader concern for judicial safety. As officials respond, the hope is that the perpetrators will be identified and prosecuted. The goal is to restore a sense of security and normalcy for the judges affected.
