Seattle Woman Charged With Killing Father Using Ice Axe in Heated Argument

A Seattle woman is facing a first-degree murder charge after allegedly killing her father with an ice climbing axe during an argument in their Rainier Valley home. The incident, which police say stemmed from a dispute over turning off the lights, underscores a tragic intersection of mental health struggles and family tension.

On the evening of November 5, Seattle police responded to reports of a violent disturbance at a home on Spear Place South. Neighbors had reported hearing breaking glass and shouting. When officers arrived, they encountered 33-year-old Corey Burke standing outside, visibly shaken and with blood on her face.

Inside the home, officers discovered the lifeless body of her father, 67-year-old Timothy Burke, in the basement. His injuries were severe, with fatal wounds to his head and torso. Nearby, detectives found a silver-and-blue ice climbing axe, which appeared to be the weapon used in the attack.

According to police documents, Corey Burke admitted to killing her father during what she described as a mental health crisis. Overwhelmed by emotions, particularly those tied to Election Day, Corey claimed she “freaked out” during a disagreement about turning off the lights.

In addition to the axe attack, Corey allegedly told investigators that she had tried to strangle her father during the altercation.

The tragedy did not happen in a vacuum. Charging documents reveal a troubled relationship between Corey and her father, marked by emotional struggles and ongoing tension. According to Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Wallace, Corey had been working on establishing emotional boundaries with her father. She reportedly expressed feelings of being “hyper-focused and disorganized” regarding their relationship.

Corey, who purchased the property in June 2023, had been living with her father since that time. Investigators noted that she appeared unable to care for herself adequately and described her as a potential danger to others and property.

News of the crime quickly spread, drawing reactions from both local residents and the broader online community.

“Looks like a mentally ill woman in Seattle was ‘overwhelmed’ about the election and used an axe to set ‘boundaries’ with her dad,” one commentator posted on social media. Others questioned how mental health services could have failed to prevent such a tragedy.

Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood, a community known for its diversity and close-knit character, is reeling from the incident. Neighbors expressed shock at the brutal nature of the crime, describing Timothy Burke as a quiet and kind man who kept to himself.

Following a mental health evaluation at Harborview Medical Center, Corey Burke was arrested and booked into King County Jail. Her arraignment is scheduled for November 21, where she will formally face the charge of first-degree murder.

The court will likely consider Corey’s mental health history, as it may play a crucial role in her defense. At this stage, authorities have not disclosed any prior incidents involving Corey and her father, though ongoing investigations may shed light on the underlying dynamics of their relationship.

The case highlights a broader issue regarding the intersection of mental health crises and violent crime. Experts have long called for more robust mental health support systems, particularly for individuals showing signs of severe emotional distress.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a significant percentage of violent crimes involve perpetrators with untreated or inadequately treated mental health conditions. These cases often spark debates about the effectiveness of current mental health intervention strategies and the role of law enforcement in crisis situations.

As Corey Burke awaits her day in court, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences when mental health crises spiral out of control. While the legal system will determine her fate, the incident underscores the need for early intervention and support for those grappling with severe emotional and psychological challenges.

For now, the Rainier Valley community mourns the loss of Timothy Burke, while reflecting on the complex issues surrounding mental health, family conflict, and violence.

Woke Leftist Demo-Commie flips her wig and murders her own father! She knew what she was doing so no BS insanity plea; throw the book at her and life in prison is too good for such an Evil Kamachameleon fan.

2 Timothy 3:1-4 “1But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, 4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,”

That evil maniac was a hell-bent aggressive killer and isn’t fit to be anywhere but in a prison cell!

      Well said.

“According to police documents, Corey Burke admitted to killing her father during what she described as a mental health crisis. Overwhelmed by emotions, particularly those tied to Election Day……”

I’m sick of people blaming their (or someone else’s) bad behavior on a “mental health crisis”.
And, the unhinged Leftist with TDS, just HAD to drag Trump’s re-election into the conversation.

There are a lot of libs who went crazy (on tilt) after the election. The reason the hysteria is rampant among them is the MSM has whipped them into a frenzy, portraying Trump as a Hitler who wants to destroy everyone’s freedom! They were coached into viscerally hating him and all who would vote for him. The MSM has blood on their hands. This murderer is not insane, she’s just another raging liberal.
