In Lakewood Township, New Jersey, a tragic car crash has claimed the lives of a woman and her 11-year-old daughter. Raul Luna-Perez, a 43-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, is facing serious charges. The charges include two counts of vehicular homicide and assault following the incident.

On July 26, police reported that Luna-Perez allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic. His vehicle collided head-on with another car carrying the victims. The woman died at the scene, and her daughter succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Another 11-year-old girl in the car survived but remains in serious condition. Luna-Perez’s vehicle had two passengers who escaped with minor injuries. This has sparked a debate over New Jersey’s sanctuary state policies.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stepped in, placing a detainer on Luna-Perez. They aim to take custody if he is released from local police custody. ICE officials have criticized state policies for shielding Luna-Perez from federal immigration authorities.

Luna-Perez has a troubling history of legal issues. He was arrested for simple domestic violence on June 25, 2023. Earlier this year, he faced drunk driving charges twice, in March and April.

Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security expressed strong criticism of New Jersey’s policies. She stated that “Governor Murphy and his sanctuary policies released this serial criminal into New Jersey communities.” She highlighted the tragedy as a failure of leadership.

McLaughlin emphasized the commitment of conservative figures like President Trump and Secretary Noem. She assured that they are working tirelessly to prevent such incidents by removing criminal illegal aliens. Their goal is to protect communities from further harm.

Governor Phil Murphy’s office responded to the situation. A spokesman told Fox News Digital that Murphy does not endorse sanctuary policies. The Governor believes Luna-Perez should have been deported due to his dangerous past.

Luna-Perez remains detained at the Ocean County Jail. The case has reignited discussions on immigration policies and public safety. Many are calling for stricter enforcement to prevent future tragedies.

The incident underscores the ongoing debate over sanctuary policies. Conservatives argue that such policies endanger communities by protecting criminals. They advocate for a focus on law enforcement and public safety.

Breitbart News reporter John Binder covers this developing story. He has been following the case closely, providing updates. Binder can be reached via email or followed on Twitter for more information.

The focus on this incident highlights broader concerns over illegal immigration. Many conservatives believe that strong policies are necessary to ensure safety. The debate continues as communities seek solutions to prevent such tragedies.

Public sentiment is divided over the effectiveness of sanctuary policies. Critics argue that they provide a haven for criminals, while supporters claim they offer protection for non-criminal immigrants. This case has brought these issues to the forefront once again.

The victims’ family is left to navigate this unimaginable loss. Community members have expressed their condolences and support. Meanwhile, the legal process for Luna-Perez is ongoing, with many watching closely.
