Rich Paul Says LeBron, Bronny Are Not A Package Deal

LeBron James is chasing one more ring, but Rich Paul made it clear the move to Philadelphia does not automatically pull Bronny James along with him. The family tie may be strong, but the basketball business side is playing by its own rules, and the Lakers still appear set to keep Bronny in Los Angeles while LeBron takes on a new challenge.

That was the big takeaway after the latest shakeup around James, who is trying to add a fifth championship to a career already packed with milestones. The idea of father and son staying linked on the same roster was always going to create buzz, but Paul cooled that off fast by saying the two are not being treated as one move.

“They are not a package deal,” The report added there is “no current plan or request for Bronny Janes to join his father.”

For the Lakers, the path ahead seems pretty straightforward. Bronny is expected to keep developing under head coach JJ Redick, with Luka Dončić leading the backcourt and Austin Reaves still in the mix as a major piece of the offense.

That gives Bronny a chance to keep building in a system that is already reshaping around younger talent and fresh additions. Adou Thiero and Dalton Knecht are expected back, while names like Walker Kessler, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton could all end up shaping the rotation in different ways.

Bronny’s own numbers show a player still finding his footing at the pro level. He played in 42 games last season, up from 27 appearances in his rookie year, and finished with an average of 2.9 points per game in 2025-26.

That kind of gradual climb is exactly what the Lakers seem willing to bet on. Instead of rushing the moment, they appear ready to let him grow into a steadier role while the team around him keeps shifting into a new look.

LeBron’s decision, meanwhile, was never really about comfort. In his own words, the choice came down to the chase, the work, and the hunger to keep competing for another title, even after everything he has already done in the league.

“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship,” James wrote on X.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time. Thank you LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always home!”

That quote says plenty about where his head is at. He is not easing into the twilight of his career, and he is definitely not treating this as some sentimental farewell tour, even if the move itself carries plenty of emotional weight.

The conversation around James has also pulled in old landing spots like Cleveland and Miami, both of which made sense on paper for a veteran with his history. But once LeBron signaled that he wanted one more real shot at a title, the field narrowed fast and the competitive angle took over.

That is what makes the Bronny angle so interesting. The father-son storyline gets attention every time it comes up, yet the actual roster decisions still depend on development, fit, and the long game, not just the headline.

Philadelphia gets the star power and the spotlight, while Los Angeles gets the chance to keep shaping Bronny’s path. Around the league, that split will keep people talking, especially because LeBron’s presence still bends every conversation it touches.

For now, the message is pretty simple. LeBron is moving with a championship mission in mind, Bronny is staying on his own track, and both situations are being handled with the kind of clarity that leaves no room for fairy-tale assumptions.
