Republicans are set to hold US Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt due to the Justice Department’s refusal to provide audio recordings of Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.
“The House Judiciary Committee is aiming to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to provide audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with the special counsel who investigated his handling of classified documents.” – the Washington Examiner reported.
“The Republican-led committee is planning to hold a meeting to review a contempt report and hold a committee vote on the matter on May 16, according to two sources familiar with the plans.” The Examiner reported.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer last month released a statement after the DOJ rebuffed his committee’s request for the audio recordings.
“The Biden Administration does not get to determine what Congress needs and does not need for its oversight of the executive branch,” Comer said. “The American people deserve to hear the actual audio of President Biden’s answers to Special Counsel Hur.”
Comer found it perplexing that the Biden administration chose not to make the audio of Biden’s interview with Hur public, despite releasing the transcript.
The fact remains that Biden misled about Hur bringing up his late son Beau.
The Justice Department’s justification for not pursuing charges against Biden was his age and memory issues.
The transcript revealed Biden’s memory lapses regarding his time as Vice President and his son’s passing.
In a spontaneous press conference in February, Biden criticized Robert Hur.
“There is even reference that I don’t remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that?” Biden previously told reporters in an impromptu White House press conference. “Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself, it wasn’t any of their damn business.”

During a two-day interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur in March, Biden’s memory was called into question regarding the stolen classified documents scandal.
In February, Hur had published a 345-page report detailing his investigation into the matter.

Biden’s stolen classified documents were scattered all over the place in damaged cardboard boxes and unlocked drawers at the Penn Biden Center. The documents were also easily accessible in Biden’s Delaware garage and basement den.
Robert Hur discovered that Joe Biden knowingly kept classified information but chose not to prosecute him. Hur revealed that there were clear indications of Biden retaining classified notebooks despite being aware that it was against the rules.
Even though Biden deliberately held on to SCIF-designated confidential documents and shared them with his ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer, he managed to avoid facing any charges.
As per Robert Hur, in 2017, Biden repeatedly recited secret details from Situation Room meetings to his ghostwriter word for word, yet he escaped legal consequences.
“We also considered whether Mr. Biden willfully disclosed national defense information to his ghostwriter by reading aloud certain classified notebook passages to the ghostwriter nearly verbatim on at least three occasions,” the report read.
