Rep. Jasmine Crockett Calls ICE Agents ‘Slave Patrols’ on National TV [WATCH]

Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas stepped into a bit of a storm when she compared ICE officers to “slave patrols” on MSNBC’s Velshi. This came up during a chat with host Ali Velshi, who was probing into immigration enforcement under former President Trump, raising questions about accountability. Velshi pointed out, “I’m trying to figure out, how can people who like Donald Trump, don’t like Donald Trump, understand that he seems to be building a police force that is not subject to the normal rules, that either policing or military should be subject to?”

Crockett’s response was straightforward, highlighting a lack of accountability and suggesting that ICE’s actions seemed to target American citizens. She didn’t hold back, stating, “There is no accountability. And it’s going after its American people.” Her comments suggested she saw a parallel between ICE’s operations and historical lawless actions.

Continuing her point, Crockett emphasized the need for informed and intelligent enforcement strategies. She remarked, “So, listen, if we want to figure out how we are going to be safer, we probably need people that have actual intelligence and actually will pay attention to data and facts and go from there.” Her historical comparison of ICE to “slave patrols” seemed to be a method to underline her concerns about the nature of ICE’s operations.

Crockett made it clear that she hadn’t experienced the era of slave patrols herself. But she stressed the importance of understanding the history of policing in the United States, noting, “Now, I never lived through the slave patrol period. But if you know the history of policing in this country, then you understand that they were born out of slave patrols.” Her remarks painted a vivid picture of her views on immigration enforcement.

She didn’t stop there, arguing that the strategies under Trump allowed for indiscriminate targeting. “It’s almost like you can just go grab them up — that is what they’re saying. And that is a problem. We all should have a problem with that,” she said. Her words were a clear critique of the broad scope of ICE’s operations during Trump’s tenure.

Crockett also linked this issue to broader debates over education and historical awareness. She pointed out, “But when you don’t want to teach American history, that includes Black history, then you lose out on the benefit of understanding that we have been down this road before.” Her comments suggested a cycle of repeating past mistakes due to a lack of historical education.

The Trump administration had defended its focus on immigration enforcement as crucial for national security. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, among others, maintained that ICE’s actions were essential for public safety. They highlighted operations against illegal aliens with criminal backgrounds as a key component of their strategy.

Law enforcement leaders frequently stood by the agency’s mandate to arrest and deport individuals who breached immigration laws. This included those with serious criminal convictions, which they argued was imperative for maintaining order and safety.

Crockett, a newcomer to Congress, has been vocal on immigration, policing, and education topics. Her outspoken nature is expected to lead to more scrutiny as debates on border security and federal enforcement powers intensify. Her comments have certainly stirred the pot in these ongoing discussions.

The Biden administration’s approach to immigration remains a hot topic, especially in Texas politics. Crockett’s comparison of ICE to slave patrols is anticipated to trigger strong reactions from lawmakers at both state and national levels. The comparison adds fuel to an already fiery debate about federal immigration enforcement.

As President Trump’s administration pursued stricter border measures, Crockett’s remarks stand out in the contentious discourse. Her perspective adds a layer of complexity to the discussions surrounding federal authority and immigration policy. Her views, while controversial, highlight the deep divisions in the current political landscape.

The debate over how best to handle immigration and enforcement continues, with both sides holding firm to their beliefs. Crockett’s statements are a reflection of the ongoing tensions and differing visions for the country’s future. As the political climate heats up, these discussions are likely to become even more polarized.
