Dasha Burns, a journalist from NBC News, recently covered the Trump rally in the Bronx, where she engaged with black and Latino voters to understand their support for the former president.
Her report on the event, aired on a morning show, revealed her surprise at the genuine and unwavering support for Trump among the attendees.
The coverage by Burns drew attention from FOX News, which highlighted her interactions with black and Latino Trump supporters who refused to engage with her questions about Trump’s past “racist” rhetoric.
On MSNBC, Burns discussed her experience at the rally and shared how these supporters were steadfast in their backing of Trump’s anti-illegal immigration and economic policies, despite acknowledging his controversial statements in the past.
In her conversation with MSNBC host Ana Cabrera, Burns emphasized that the individuals she spoke to were primarily concerned with tangible aspects of their lives rather than being swayed by Trump’s rhetoric.
They seemed undeterred by any attempts to challenge their support for him based on his history of making “racist” and “bigoted” comments.
Furthermore, Burns highlighted an unexpected aspect of her interactions with attendees at the rally – some of them were immigrants themselves.
Contrary to expectations, these immigrant supporters resonated with Trump’s stance on immigration.
“They are just so focused on what their lives are like right now, what they can feel tangibly, that when I push back with those comments, they shut that down,” Burns told MSNBC host Ana Cabrera, commenting that these voters don’t care about Trump’s rhetoric compared to his policies…
“Well, this might sound a little counterintuitive, but I did talk to folks in that crowd who themselves were immigrants,” she said. “A lot of people that I talked to were born and raised in the Bronx. For some of them, this was their first ever Trump event. And when you talk to immigrants that are going to these Trump rallies, they agree with his message on immigration.”
Overall, Dasha Burns’ coverage provided valuable insights into the perspectives of black and Latino voters who attended the Bronx rally in support of Donald Trump.
By delving into their motivations and priorities, she offered a deeper understanding of diverse voices within these communities while also challenging preconceived notions about immigrant attitudes towards contentious political figures like Trump.
