Most voters oppose doctors providing puberty blockers to children

Nearly half of American registered voters oppose allowing doctors to prescribe puberty blockers to children, according to a comprehensive new poll released by The Center Square in collaboration with Noble Predictive Insights. The survey, which polled over 2,500 registered voters nationwide in mid-April 2025, paints a clear picture of growing public resistance to the use of puberty-blocking drugs in minors—especially in the context of gender transition.

The data shows that only 29% of voters support the use of puberty blockers when parents give their consent, while support plummets to just 10% when parental involvement is removed from the equation. An additional 14% of respondents remain undecided, leaving nearly half of the electorate in firm opposition to the practice, regardless of parental input.

These results underscore a growing unease among American voters about what many see as the medicalization of childhood and ideological overreach in health care—particularly in light of ongoing concerns about the long-term effects of these powerful drugs on developing bodies and minds.

Unsurprisingly, the poll revealed a stark divide along party lines. Among Democrats, 41% support doctors prescribing puberty blockers to minors with parental consent, reflecting the party’s broader alignment with gender-affirming care policies. However, the level of support drops significantly when consent is removed, suggesting even many Democrats are not entirely comfortable with unrestricted access to these drugs.

In contrast, Republican opposition is overwhelming. A full 68% of GOP respondents say puberty blockers should never be prescribed to children under any circumstances, even with parental approval. Only 16% of Republicans support access to these drugs if parents consent—a number that continues to decline as more conservatives push back against what they view as dangerous and experimental treatments being imposed on children in the name of gender ideology.

While puberty blockers were initially developed for treating precocious puberty (a rare condition in which children begin puberty at an unusually early age), and occasionally used alongside growth hormone therapy, their growing use in gender transition protocols for minors has sparked intense public and political debate. Critics argue that these drugs are being used off-label in ways that are untested and potentially harmful, particularly when prescribed to children who may later desist from gender dysphoria or who are too young to fully understand the lifelong implications.

Despite strong backing from the American Medical Association, the Endocrine Society, and other mainstream medical organizations that support gender-affirming treatments as “medically necessary” for transgender youth, multiple Republican-led states have moved to restrict or outright ban the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries for minors.

These legislative efforts often draw support from parents, conservative legal organizations, and medical whistleblowers who argue that children are being rushed into irreversible treatments without adequate oversight or informed consent.

Former President Donald Trump made headlines during his return to office in 2025 when he took immediate executive action to halt federal funding for gender transition procedures in minors, including puberty blockers and surgical interventions. Trump’s move has reignited a national conversation about the proper role of government in protecting children from what many see as a radical medical agenda pushed by progressive ideologues and activist doctors.

Trump has been a vocal critic of what he calls “gender experimentation on children,” and his administration has prioritized federal legal backing for states seeking to restrict these procedures, setting up a series of legal challenges that may ultimately shape the future of transgender health care policy in the United States.

The legal battle over puberty blockers has reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which is expected to hear arguments in the coming months on whether states have the constitutional authority to restrict the use of these drugs for minors. The high court’s ruling could set a precedent that will define the limits of state and federal power in regulating controversial medical practices tied to gender identity.

The poll, conducted from April 15 to 18, 2025, reached a representative sample of 2,527 registered voters through a mix of online panels and text-to-web cellphone messaging. The respondents included 1,089 Republicans, 1,187 Democrats, and 251 True Independents—individuals who do not identify with or lean toward either major political party.

To ensure accuracy and national representation, the results were weighted across several demographic categories, including political affiliation, age, gender, race/ethnicity, education level, and geographic region. The margin of error for the poll is ±2.0%, placing it among the six most trusted national tracking polls currently active in the U.S.

As the cultural battle over transgender ideology and children’s health intensifies, this new poll reveals that Americans are increasingly skeptical of allowing minors to undergo medical interventions tied to gender identity. The data highlights a broader call for parental rights, medical caution, and stronger legal safeguards—an agenda that is now firmly supported by the conservative movement and amplified by President Trump’s leadership.

With more states expected to introduce restrictions and lawsuits mounting across the country, the national conversation is no longer just about medicine—it’s about who gets to decide what’s best for children, and whether ideologically driven medicine has gone too far.

Remember Democrats you have been fighting against what majority of Americans voted for. Your approval rating is 23%. Dont expect people to vote for Democrats who work against the majority of Americans.
