Many conservatives still remember the Kavanaugh confirmation as a raw display of partisan theater, the kind that leaves trust in institutions battered. That fight introduced a tougher Lindsey Graham, once measured and now unafraid to call out Democrats’ tactics, and people still call that version “Lindsey 2.0”.

Senator Graham: I think our Justice Department, in the hands of (President) Biden, crossed every line there is to cross. I think within three days of his announcing he was going to run for president in 2024, he did that in 2020, too.
KW (interrupting): But what about Trump? What about Trump?
Senator Graham: He had 91 indictments…
KW (still interrupting): But what about Trump?
Senator Graham: No, I think the grand jury’s going to take care of this. But you didn’t care any about this. You didn’t care that Letitia James made up charges that no one has ever faced.
KW: But Senator Biden never called for Trump to be indicted.
Senator Graham: He had.. Biden, Biden regretted that they didn’t do it before the election. Jack Smith surveilled my phone records and eight other Senators. Jack Smith introduced his brief against Trump on October the 24th, before the 2024 election, violating every protocol just to politicize the election. So this may bother you that people are being held accountable. It doesn’t bother me one d**n bit.
It wasn’t the raw fury of the Kavanaugh hearings, but Graham refused to accept Welker’s framing and kept pressing the larger point about a politicized Justice Department. He named names and timelines, forcing the argument away from pure gotcha journalism.
Welker’s repeated pivot to “what about Trump” felt like a media reflex, an attempt to reset the debate onto a familiar soundbite. Graham would not let the bait become the story; he kept returning to prosecutorial conduct and institutional fairness. That is the posture conservatives need in these interviews.
“But what about Trump? But what about Trump? But what about Trump?”
That line from the moderator is a distraction more than a policy critique; it squeezes nuance into a one-line retort and asks the viewer to settle for circular coverage. It also doesn’t address who is wielding power, how they’re using it, or whether institutions are being weaponized.
The clip lays out a playbook: don’t accept the press’s premises, demand specifics, and put procedure and timing under the microscope. When the media settles on repeating “what about Trump” as a default, push facts, timelines, and accountability instead of surrendering the frame. That discipline wins more than theatrics.
If you liked the tougher Graham that emerged in 2018, this is the same instinct reappearing: measured, direct, and unwilling to grant easy assumptions to the left. I want to see more of that Graham in interviews and on the floor.
