Georgia Father Arrested After Allegedly Killing 4-Year-Old Daughter

Police in Atlanta say a four-year-old girl died after suffering multiple stab wounds in a domestic violence incident that unfolded late on March 14. Authorities allege the girl’s father attacked her to punish the mother for leaving him, emergency calls captured the chaos, and prosecutors are pursuing the most serious charges possible.

The call to 911 captured a frantic scene inside a family car as voices pleaded for the attack to stop. ‘Stop! Rashad, stop! Help!’ is heard, and allegedly the line was cut when a phone was stabbed during the violence. Responding officers discovered the young child gravely wounded and a man later identified as 35-year-old Rashad Dixon nearby.

Police say officers used de-escalation techniques to separate the injured girl from Dixon and get medical help on the scene. The child was rushed to a hospital but tragically did not survive her injuries. Dixon himself sustained lacerations and received medical treatment before being taken into custody.

Investigators allege the motive was horrifyingly personal: that Dixon stabbed and killed his daughter as a way to punish the girl’s mother for ending the relationship. Prosecutors contend he even stabbed the phone to stop the emergency call and reportedly damaged a vehicle window while also injuring himself to try to evade blame. The facts authorities describe paint a case centered on control and retaliation against an intimate partner.

  • Murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Aggravated battery
  • Cruelty to children in the first degree
  • Possession of a knife during the commission of a felony
  • False imprisonment
  • Two counts of criminal damage to property
  • Simple assault

Those charges reflect the broad scope of alleged wrongdoing at the scene and seek to address both the loss of life and the surrounding violent behavior. Fulton County prosecutors made clear they view this as a particularly severe and deliberate act of harm. “It’s a horrible case of a father taking the life of his child to punish the mother,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said, and she signaled pursuit of the maximum penalties.

“We’re going to ask that he be put in prison for the rest of his life,” Willis added, underscoring the seriousness with which officials are treating the allegations. The district attorney’s office described a background of abuse in the relationship, which prosecutors say contextualizes the attack as part of a pattern of intimate partner violence. Executive District Attorney Simone Hylton called some of the evidence “heart-wrenching” and said it highlights risks victims can face.

“Sometimes they say prosecutors don’t cry, but this one, when you read it, when you see some of the evidence, it’s heart-wrenching,” Executive District Attorney Simone Hylton said. Hylton added that “This is an indication of the extreme events that can occur in intimate partner violence cases,” pointing to how domestic abuse can escalate into fatal outcomes for family members.

Authorities have been piecing together the timeline from the 911 audio, witness statements, and the physical scene to support the indictments. The emergency call itself became part of the case narrative because it appears to capture both the mother’s desperate pleas and the moment communication was allegedly cut off. Investigators note the combination of assault on another person, self-inflicted injuries, and criminal damage as elements that strengthen the prosecution’s position.

Court filings and charges now head through the legal process, where prosecutors will aim to prove intent and motive in court. The list of charges spans violent felonies and related offenses, reflecting prosecutors’ view that multiple criminal acts occurred during the incident. If convicted on the most serious counts, the defendant could face the harshest penalties under state law.

The tragedy has prompted renewed attention to the dangers associated with abusive relationships and the warning signs that can precede escalations. Local officials emphasized the role of law enforcement and the justice system in responding to and prosecuting these crimes, while advocates for victims of domestic violence say every case like this is a stark reminder of the need for resources and safe options for those trying to leave dangerous situations.
