CNN data analyst Harry Enten has raised concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris’s standing in key swing states, even though she leads by a narrow margin in national polls.
According to Enten, Harris’s numbers might not be sufficient to secure an Electoral College victory, which is what ultimately decides the presidency.
While Harris could potentially win the popular vote in November, Enten warned that the real challenge lies in critical battleground states.
These include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where her lead is much slimmer—just 0.3 points on average compared to a 2.5-point lead nationally.
Enten explained to CNN’s John Berman that Harris currently has about a 70% chance of winning the popular vote but only a 50% chance of securing an Electoral College win, a scenario reminiscent of the 2016 and 2000 elections.
Should Harris win the popular vote but lose the presidency, there could be renewed outcry from the left, as seen in previous elections over the Electoral College system.
Fox News has also reported on Enten’s analysis.
They emphasizing that Harris’s lead in national polls doesn’t reflect the tighter race in swing states, where it truly matters for an Electoral College victory.
