Michael Tait, the former lead singer of DC Talk and Newsboys, is facing serious allegations from eight men, accusing him of sexual assault. Among the accusers is Jason Jones, the founding manager of the hard-rock band Evanescence, who claims that his career took a downturn after he spoke about his alleged experience with Tait. Jones recalls being dismissed from the band in 1999, an event he attributes to his revelations about Tait’s behavior.
Jones detailed a 1998 incident where he alleges that after a night of drinking at Tait’s house, he awoke to find the singer performing unwanted sexual acts on him. Despite his protests, Jones claims the assaults continued. He suspects that Tait may have drugged him, as he repeatedly lost consciousness during the ordeal.
Randall Crawford, another accuser, shared a similar account, stating that he blacked out after consuming a single drink at Tait’s house. He later found himself in a compromising situation and believes he was drugged. Crawford’s memory of the incident came back later, leading him to question the nature of the encounter.
Two more men have accused Tait of drugging them before allegedly assaulting them. Sources familiar with Tait’s circle at the time describe a pattern of questionable behavior, including having a rotation of young men at his Nashville home. Witnesses allege that Tait imposed a “no clothes allowed” rule in his hot tub, raising further concerns about his conduct.
In June, the Guardian reported additional allegations against Tait, with three men coming forward to accuse him of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior. Shawn Davis, one of the accusers, claims that Tait introduced him to drugs and alcohol when he was a minor, leading to an alleged assault. Davis describes waking up in a closet to find Tait engaged in unwanted sexual activity.
Another alleged victim, identified as Adam, shared a similar experience, recalling waking up to find Tait performing unwanted acts on him. Confused and panicked, Adam questioned how to respond to the situation. The accounts paint a troubling picture of Tait’s alleged behavior during this period.
Israel Anthem, who was just 13 at the time, claims Tait exposed himself to him in a restaurant restroom. Anthem describes an uncomfortable encounter where Tait allegedly made eye contact while engaging in inappropriate conduct. These allegations add to the growing list of accusations against the singer.
In response to earlier allegations, Tait released a statement on Instagram titled “My Confession,” admitting to a long-standing addiction to drugs and alcohol. He acknowledged having touched men in an unwanted manner and expressed shame for his actions. Tait admitted that his behavior was reckless and destructive, accepting responsibility for his choices.
While Tait disputed some details of the accusations, he did not deny the essence of the claims against him. He revealed that he left Newsboys in January to seek help, spending six weeks at a treatment center in Utah. Tait claims to have been clean and sober since, although he acknowledges the ongoing challenges he faces.
These allegations have not been addressed by Tait since his initial confession, and the singer has yet to comment on the latest claims. The situation remains a complex and deeply concerning matter, with multiple individuals sharing accounts of troubling experiences. As the story unfolds, the impact on Tait’s career and public image is yet to be fully seen.
