Biden Skipped Key Calls Before Afghanistan Withdrawal, Report Reveals

The Wall Street Journal recently dropped a bombshell report, exposing how President Joe Biden’s declining mental state and the White House’s efforts to conceal it contributed to the disastrous U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. The report has sparked outrage, shedding new light on the administration’s handling of the crisis that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and left billions in military assets in Taliban hands.

For years, concerns about Biden’s cognitive health were dismissed by the mainstream media, but this new report confirms what many Americans have suspected: the president’s mental and physical fitness were in question during a critical moment in U.S. history. According to the Wall Street Journal, Biden was so mentally fatigued that he skipped an important phone call with Rep. Adam Smith, the Democratic Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, ahead of the chaotic withdrawal.

In August 2021, as the withdrawal deadline loomed, Rep. Smith tried repeatedly to contact Biden to share his concerns about the administration’s overly optimistic approach to the withdrawal. Having worked extensively on the issue, Smith believed the pullout would be far more complicated and perilous than White House officials suggested. Despite his attempts, Biden never returned the calls. White House aides reportedly shielded Biden from such engagements, citing his mental fatigue.

The consequences of Biden’s inaccessibility were devastating. The rushed withdrawal led to the deaths of 13 American troops, injuries to many more, and the deaths of 170 Afghan civilians in a suicide bombing at Kabul’s airport. Additionally, billions of dollars in U.S. military equipment, including weapons, vehicles, and aircraft, were abandoned and subsequently seized by the Taliban.

Critics argue that Biden’s mental decline and his administration’s attempts to hide it have undermined trust in the presidency. The Wall Street Journal’s revelations have reignited debates over Biden’s fitness to serve as commander-in-chief, especially during moments of national and international crisis.

The Afghanistan withdrawal marked one of the most criticized moments of Biden’s presidency. The operation’s flaws were evident even before the chaos unfolded. Smith’s concerns about the withdrawal strategy highlighted significant gaps in planning, yet Biden’s unavailability left those warnings unheeded.

“It’s incredibly concerning that a sitting president was so difficult to reach during such a pivotal moment,” Smith said in a recent interview. “The American people deserved better, and the men and women who serve our country certainly deserved better.”

Reports of Biden’s inaccessibility have also drawn attention to the role of his aides, who worked tirelessly to shield him from public and political scrutiny. Their efforts included limiting his direct interactions with lawmakers and the media, fueling speculation about the president’s declining cognitive abilities.

The fallout from the withdrawal extended far beyond the initial chaos. The abandonment of military equipment handed the Taliban a windfall, making them one of the best-armed insurgent groups in the world. This outcome has serious implications for regional security and the United States’ global standing.

Former Justice Department official John Yoo called the withdrawal a “national security nightmare.” “The lack of planning and the president’s apparent disengagement from critical decision-making processes exposed the administration’s incompetence,” Yoo said.

The withdrawal’s human toll is perhaps its most tragic legacy. Families of the 13 U.S. service members killed during the operation have criticized the administration’s handling of the situation, demanding accountability for the preventable loss of life.

The Wall Street Journal’s report has renewed calls for greater transparency about Biden’s health and decision-making capacity. Critics argue that the American people have a right to know whether their president is capable of fulfilling his duties. Some lawmakers are now calling for investigations into how the administration managed the withdrawal and the role Biden’s health played in its execution.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a vocal critic of the Biden administration, tweeted: “This report confirms what we’ve all suspected. Biden’s mental decline cost American lives. We need accountability, and we need it now.”

The Afghanistan withdrawal remains a stark reminder of the consequences of inadequate leadership. As the nation grapples with the aftermath, questions about Biden’s fitness to lead and the actions of his administration continue to dominate political discourse.

For many Americans, the revelations about Biden’s mental state serve as a wake-up call. The nation’s highest office demands clarity, competence, and accountability—qualities that critics argue were absent during one of the most consequential foreign policy decisions in recent history.

As new details emerge, the Biden administration faces mounting pressure to address these concerns. Whether through congressional hearings or independent investigations, the American people are demanding answers about what went wrong—and who is to blame.
