Peltola Denies Ballot Plot As Sullivan Calls Allegations Corrupt

Alaska’s Senate race has turned into a nasty fight over a ballot scheme allegation, with Mary Peltola denying any knowledge of it and Sen. Dan Sullivan blasting the whole episode as a massive betrayal of voters. The dispute centers on claims that Democrats tried to muddy the ballot by putting another Dan Sullivan in the race, a move that now has the state’s political class arguing over intent, deception, and what it means for Alaska’s voters.

Peltola told supporters in Juneau that she wanted to “clear the air” and insisted, “I knew nothing about any other candidates on the ballot except for me and the incumbent. That is all I have ever known about. I am not interested in tricking voters. I know I can beat Dan Sullivan.” Her camp has tried to frame the issue as something she was not personally involved in, but that explanation has not slowed the criticism.

Sullivan, speaking with Fox News, said the campaign’s actions were far beyond normal hardball politics. He argued that instead of focusing on message, record, and vision, Peltola’s side spent its time figuring out how to game the system and confuse voters.

According to Sullivan, the plan was not a small mistake or a harmless coincidence. He described it as a long-running effort that involved advisers in Alaska and Washington, and he said the people behind it kept denying what they had done even after the story broke.

At the center of the uproar is the presence of two men with the same name on the ballot. The incumbent appears as “Sullivan, Dan S.,” while another candidate, a retired schoolteacher, is listed as “Sullivan, Daniel J. Jr.” Critics have nicknamed the latter “Decoy Dan,” a label that has only added more heat to an already ugly fight.

The Justice Department has also moved to delay certification of the election results while the legal mess plays out. That step has made the race even more tense, since the presence of the duplicate name has raised obvious questions about voter confusion and whether the ballot setup changed the contest in a real way.

Sullivan did not hold back when asked what this says about Peltola and her operation. He said the alleged scheme showed “the most corrupt action you could take,” then accused her team of treating voters like they would not notice what was happening.

He also tied the controversy to a broader sense of frustration on the campaign trail, saying Alaska voters see it as open contempt. In his view, the first move of her Senate run was not about persuasion or public service, but about trying to rig the playing field before the race even got going.

The criticism has not been limited to Sullivan’s campaign. The report has rippled through Alaska politics because it suggests a coordinated effort to shape the ballot in a way that could siphon support from the incumbent, all while public denials were still being made.

Peltola has kept her focus on denying direct knowledge, but that has done little to quiet the backlash. Sullivan’s side is leaning hard into the idea that voters were being manipulated, and he says the entire episode will loom large as the election battle moves forward.

“Think about it. Her first big move as a candidate, she hadn’t announced her candidacy yet, was to rig the system and work together to cheat and to recruit a candidate whose sole purpose, we all know now, was to confuse Alaskans to rig the vote for her. It is a shocker. It’s the biggest scandal in Alaskan electoral history by far,” Sullivan said.

He added that the anger he is hearing from Alaskans is not subtle, and he believes the backlash will matter when votes are counted. “Mary Peltola and her campaign and the Democrats in D.C. and Alaska think the Alaskan people are dumb. We’re not dumb,” Sullivan added. “And this is going to have a huge impact on the election. We’re going to win.”

That blunt tone has only deepened the sense that this race is no longer just about ideology or party labels. It has become a referendum on trust, and every new detail seems to push the fight further into scandal territory.
