LA Councilwoman Mocked for Praising Basic Crosswalk Fix

A Los Angeles councilwoman’s upbeat post about a freshly painted crosswalk turned into an online punchline almost immediately. What she framed as a neighborhood improvement looked to critics like a lot of fanfare for a very basic city task.

Los Angeles Councilmember Nithya Raman, who is tied to the Democratic Socialists of America, drew heat after celebrating the completion of a crosswalk project that had reportedly been flagged by the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council months earlier. Her post included before-and-after photos and praised her field team for “continuing to problem-solve, push for solutions, and make our streets safer.”

The reaction was fast and brutal. Richard Grenell fired back with, “Dear Lord, Nithya. Your standards are so incredibly low,” followed by the jab, “They didn’t even fix the street, they painted over cracks. And it took them a year…..”

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate and reality television personality Spencer Pratt also jumped in with a biting joke of his own. “Holy s—t, my sides…Nithya Raman’s big accomplishment is taking 9 months to paint 7 yellow stripes over a cracked street?” he wrote, adding, “How dumb do you have to be to post this? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA”

Ben Shapiro piled on with his own sarcastic take, saying, “This is beyond parody,” and mocking the delay as if it were some grand civic triumph. Chris Rufo of the Manhattan Institute took it even further, saying, “They’re calling it the most ambitious infrastructure project since the Golden Gate Bridge.”

The whole episode landed like a neat snapshot of the gap between political self-congratulation and everyday common sense. A neighborhood crosswalk is not exactly the kind of thing most voters expect to see treated like a ribbon-cutting moment, especially when the road itself still looks rough.

Raman’s announcement described the project as “Improving Our Neighborhood Street Infrastructure” and pointed to the yellow crosswalk markings now sitting across the cracked pavement. She said the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council had raised the issue with her office in late 2025, setting the work in motion.

Even with the before-and-after photos, the post left out a lot of basic details. It did not say what the project cost, when the work actually started, which city department handled it, or whether any real safety upgrades were part of the job beyond the paint itself.

That missing context made the celebratory tone even easier to mock. When politicians hype simple maintenance like a major breakthrough, people notice, and they rarely clap along.

Fox News Digital said it reached out to Raman’s office and to Pratt for comment, but no response came back before publication. Meanwhile, the images of yellow lines on a battered street kept doing the rounds online, where the jokes wrote themselves.
