Met Police Seize $10M In Supercars In Record Crackdown

London police have turned a loud, expensive nuisance into a major enforcement win, pulling 90 vehicles off the streets during a three-day sweep aimed at so-called antisocial driving. The haul included a stack of high-end exotics and marked a new record for this kind of operation, with the total value of the seized cars expected to reach around $10 million.

In the mix were some of the biggest badges in the business, including the Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari Purosangue, Lamborghini Revuelto, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and Rolls-Royce Wraith. The standout seizure was a rare Ferrari Monza SP2, a car with an estimated auction value of $5 million and only 499 built, which was reportedly in the UK for just one day before police stepped in.

That Monza case drew plenty of attention for more than its price tag. The driver was said to be holding only a provisional license and also lacked valid insurance, which made the stop far more than a simple traffic problem. When a car that rare gets nabbed on paperwork alone, it sends a sharp message that status does not buy immunity.

The Metropolitan Police said the crackdown is the largest of its kind in five years, and that a recent boost in enforcement powers made the difference. Instead of just warning drivers and moving on, officers were able to seize vehicles on the spot, and about 15 were taken immediately under that authority alone.

Most of the action centered around Hyde Park, Kensington, and Chelsea, areas where residents have been complaining for a long time about roaring engines and reckless behavior. Special Chief Inspector Geoff Tatman said the goal was to target the places hit hardest by complaints and make it clear that repeat offenders would not be allowed to keep treating public roads like a private racetrack.

The operation was a big team effort, with 120 officers involved, many from the Met’s Special Constabulary and Vehicle Enforcement Team. The Motor Insurers’ Bureau also played a role, reflecting how often uninsured driving is tied to these cases and how much damage it can do when things go wrong.

The crackdown also uncovered more than just driving offenses, which is usually what happens when enforcement starts digging into a scene that has gotten too comfortable. One detained man was reportedly carrying 19 bank cards in other people’s names along with unexplained cash, raising money laundering concerns, while another was suspected of drug supply and a separate person was held over an immigration offense.

What makes this sweep hit so hard is the image it leaves behind: elite machines, some worth more than homes, loaded onto recovery trucks because the drivers either ignored the rules or thought they were above them. In neighborhoods where peace and quiet matter just as much as horsepower, the message landed fast and loud.
