The Riverside Sheriff’s Office has reassigned a school resource deputy and launched a review after a confrontation outside a Moreno Valley high school was captured on video and circulated online; the footage shows an officer forcing a female student to the ground during an attempted arrest and has sparked a mix of criticism and support across social platforms.
Officials say the deputy was sent to the campus of Vista del Lago High School late in the afternoon to break up a physical altercation between students. What followed was a forceful detention that was recorded by a nearby content creator and later shared widely.
The video shows the deputy wrestling with a student as he tried to detain and handcuff her, and authorities say she pulled away as officers attempted to secure her. “Put your hands behind your back. Stop,” the deputy said to the girl. “Stop doing what you’re doing!”
An Instagram creator who filmed the scene told local reporters they heard the commotion and went to document the incident, then posted the footage they captured. That uploader also spoke about the student’s behavior and offered an account that suggested the girl resisted prior to being taken to the ground.
The influencer, who asked to remain unnamed, said the student resisted and suggested the girl might have been 14, though that detail has not been confirmed by law enforcement. ‘She was on the ground and, yes, she got rowdy, and he was just moving her around like a rag doll.’
Paramedics evaluated the student at the scene and she was arrested on suspicion of battery and resisting arrest, according to the sheriff’s office. The local school district reported it reached out to the student’s family to offer support after the incident.
Video of forceful arrests at schools tends to produce stark reactions, and this clip was no exception. Some commenters defended the deputy, arguing that officers have a tough job keeping campuses safe and that resistance can force officers into physical action, while others raised concerns about whether the level of force was appropriate for a school setting.
“Thank you officers for your service. These feral, vile rabid citizens needs to learn law, order and swift justice!” one user on the X platform. “[I don’t] give a damn what sex or race. You play stupid games. You win stupid prizes,” another response . “Act like animals get treated like an animal,” another replied. “Stop resisting arrest you dumbasses you won’t be roughed up. You got what you deserve,” said. “I’m tired of hearing little pansy ass p***ies can’t handle it when they’re trying to resist screw you you got what you deserved.”
There is also a video clip circulating that shows the encounter from a close angle and has been viewed and shared by many in the community.
The sheriff’s office emphasized it treats every use-of-force incident seriously and that reviews are standard procedure. “The Riverside Sheriff’s Office takes each use of force very seriously and makes every effort to de-escalate these situations whenever possible,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
“As with all use-of-force incidents, a review will be conducted to ensure compliance with our policy and training standards,” they added. The inquiry will determine whether department rules were followed and whether any adjustments to training or policy are needed after this campus episode.
