Protect Kids Self Worth From Social Media, Demi Tebow Urges Parents

Kids today grow up under a spotlight most of us never had. This piece looks at parenting in a public world, leans on Mary’s example and Scripture, and offers practical habits—grace, preparation, real role models, and surrender—to help raise steady, faithful children in noisy times.

Modern childhood is public by default. Between social feeds and packed stadiums, every slip and triumph can be broadcast and judged, and that pressure lands on families in real ways. Parents I talk to often feel like they must armor their kids against a constant tide of opinion.

My husband and I learned how to navigate public commentary through his career in baseball, but now our sons play under those same lights. Jackson and Ethan have grown up with fans watching, and whenever they have a hard day, opinions flood in from every direction. That reality has shaped how we parent: not by trying to hide them from scrutiny, but by equipping them to stand firm inside it.

Look at Mary for a model of parenting under watch. From the start her child’s life did not fit neat expectations, and she could not control how others judged or misunderstood Him. Despite not being able to stop the hard parts, she stayed present, rooted, and trusting — a steady presence in chaos.

We don’t build resilient kids by removing every pressure. Sheltering them from difficulty only teaches avoidance, not strength. True preparation comes from letting them learn to stand, to respond, and to carry themselves with character when the world watches.

Home should be the place where identity is safe and unconditional. Make a space where worth isn’t tied to a score, a like, or a highlight reel — a home where wins and struggles are both welcome and where love is not something they must earn. That kind of steadiness gives kids a durable sense of belonging when the noise gets loud.

Grace has to lead even when correction is needed. We moved away from punishment-driven fixes and toward correction wrapped in patience and restoration. Living grace publicly and privately shows children that failure doesn’t erase worth and that asking for forgiveness matters more than appearing flawless.

Perfection isn’t the standard at home, and modeling repentance matters more than pretending you never fail. When parents make room for their own mistakes and forgiveness, children learn how to accept mercy and extend it to others. That kind of emotional freedom shapes how they respond to criticism and motivates real growth.

Practical preparation goes hand in hand with trusting God for the outcome. Consider Proverbs 21:31: “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” Do the hard work of training, discipline, and character-building, then release results you cannot control.

Intentional parenting is mostly ordinary and unseen: consistent rhythms, conversations about faith, and steady expectations. Raise them to show up prepared, work hard, and know that ultimate victory and purpose aren’t defined by public applause but by a life lived with integrity.

Expose kids to excellence in people and in faith. Let them see role models who lead well, work hard, and treat others with respect. Children learn more from the company they keep and the behaviors they witness than from lectures; point out admirable traits and give them chances to emulate them.

Motherhood and parenting are demanding, and some seasons feel especially heavy. Still, the unseen influence parents pour into daily life has consequences that last. Let faith shape your parenting choices, let grace guide your corrections, and let intentional training paired with prayer be the way you raise the next generation.
