Ilhan Omar Misses Minnesota Subpoena Deadline, Vote Falls Short

State investigators in Minnesota say Rep. Ilhan Omar missed a deadline to hand over documents tied to the Feeding Our Future fraud probe, a development that has Republicans pressing for more answers and possible federal subpoenas as they point to policy decisions that may have enabled the scam.

The state House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee gave Omar a deadline to provide records and testimony and she did not comply. Committee members voted on a subpoena but came up one vote short, a near miss that has Republicans fired up and signaling this is far from over.

‘This is one of dozens, if not hundreds of things we are investigating. We have had hundreds of whistleblower reports. They continue to come in weekly.’

Minnesota state Rep. Kristin Robbins, a Republican member of the committee, Omar in comments to Fox News. Robbins called Omar’s silence a slap at taxpayers and said the congresswoman seems unwilling to explain how policy moves she supported may have contributed to the corruption.

“It shows her continued disdain for the taxpayer,” she said. “She feels like she’s above having to answer for her involvement in the fraud and her responsibility as a member of Congress who … passed the bill that took the guardrails off the school nutrition program that led to the conditions that enabled Feeding Our Future.”

Robbins and other Republicans link the scandal back to the MEALS Act passed in March 2020, arguing that loosening oversight opened the door for widespread abuse. Investigators say the Feeding Our Future ring swindled a large federal nutrition program, and at least 65 people have been convicted so far in the sprawling scheme.

Committee members insist their work will keep going even without that subpoena, promising to chase whistleblower leads and trace networks of fraud. Robbins said the committee has been flooded with reports and that new information keeps arriving, keeping the investigation active despite the procedural setback.

Robbins also said she will push for Republican lawmakers in Congress to consider their own subpoena for Omar, since the program in question is federal and still within their authority to probe. “I don’t know if they are, but they would have the same authority ,and it’s still relevant to them because it’s a federal program that’s been swindled,” she said. “So I don’t know if they would be willing to do it, but it’s worth asking.”

The backlash has not been limited to subpoenas. Republicans have raised questions about sudden swings in Omar’s financial disclosures and pointed to a recent revision that significantly cut reported assets. Those disclosure fights and the broader fraud allegations have combined to make Omar a focal point for GOP oversight and political messaging ahead of upcoming races.

“Democrat Ilhan Omar has shown her disdain for the taxpayers. She believes she’s above answering for her role in the Feeding our Future fraud,” Robbins on social media. “We’ve sent her multiple letters and invites, but zero response from Ilhan Omar — what is she hiding?”

Robbins is also running for Minnesota governor, and her comments link investigative pressure with a political campaign that highlights accountability and taxpayer protection. Republicans say that accountability for government programs matters, especially when federal funds intended for kids end up in the hands of fraudsters.

As investigators continue to follow leads and compile records, the question Republicans keep asking is simple: who profited and who looked the other way? With convictions piling up in the Feeding Our Future case and witnesses still coming forward, state and perhaps federal oversight teams look set to keep turning over stones until they find answers.
