The recording opens with a male caller sounding unsure and disturbed as he describes what he and his companion saw on the sand, saying, “I’m at the beach right now, I was just sitting down and something pulled up on the shore,” and telling the dispatcher the object “looks like a human body.” His voice carries the caution of someone who did not want to get too close, and he repeatedly stresses that he kept his distance while trying to confirm what had washed up. The clip captures the unnerving moment ordinary daylight turns into a scene that calls for emergency response.
At one point the caller says plainly, “It looks like a human body on the floor – like dead.” That line lands hard in the recording and is followed by him explaining he used his phone camera to zoom in rather than approaching the figure directly.
