5 Best Apple HomeView Alternatives That Cost Much Less

  • Apple’s new HomeView and its higher price
  • Cheaper Apple-friendly smart speaker options
  • Budget smart displays with screens
  • Alexa-based displays and wall-mounted control hubs
  • Screenless smart home hubs for connected devices

Apple’s new HomeView brings a sharp display, face recognition, and smart home controls into one polished package, but the $299 price tag puts it out of easy reach for a lot of households. That leaves plenty of room for cheaper gear that still handles music, timers, routines, video calls, and home automation without making the checkout page sting. The good news is that the smart display market is packed with solid alternatives that cost much less and still get the job done.

For Apple users who want to stay inside the ecosystem, the HomePod Mini 2 is the most obvious detour. At $149, it costs about half as much as HomeView and still gives you voice control, automation support, and hands-free access to connected devices, even if it skips the screen entirely. It is a clean fit for people who care more about audio and Siri-based control than a countertop display.

The Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen lands in a different lane, but it makes a strong case for itself at $99. It is built like a bedside companion, with a small screen, sunrise alarm, and sleep tracking features that make it useful in a bedroom rather than a busy kitchen. The display is simple and practical, and while the speaker is not the star of the show, it is still a handy way to check photos, alarms, and lights without spending big.

Amazon’s Echo Show 8 pushes harder on versatility. It starts at $199.99 for the 8-inch model and can handle recipes, music, camera checks, and video calls, while also giving you access to Alexa features that can dig through photos and build slideshows. It also adds a brighter screen, stronger bass, and camera tools like auto-framing, which makes it feel more like a full-featured smart display than a basic home helper.

For homes already loaded with smart gear, the Amazon Echo Hub takes a more focused approach. It is not trying to be a family screen or a party speaker, and that is exactly why it works so well for people who want a wall-mounted control center for lights, locks, plugs, and routines. At $179.99, it is cheaper than HomeView and far more specialized, turning the idea of a smart display into a simple dashboard for the devices that matter most.

Then there is the Aqara Hub M3, which skips the screen entirely and leans into being the quiet brain of the house. It connects with HomeKit, Matter, and Thread, handles a long list of smart home gear, and can manage sensors, shades, thermostats, locks, and more without demanding much attention. For people who want their devices coordinated instead of displayed, it is a strong value at $139.99, especially if the home already uses Aqara products.

All of these options point to the same thing: a smart home does not need to be expensive to feel polished. Some households will want a display on the counter, some will want a speaker in the kitchen, and some will just want cleaner control over the lights and locks they already own. The best choice comes down to whether the goal is conversation, convenience, or command over the whole setup, and there is no shortage of cheaper ways to get there.
