Trump Vows to ‘Stop the Transgender Lunacy’: Only Two Genders

Former President Donald Trump has ignited intense debate with a fiery speech at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, where he pledged to take sweeping action against what he termed “transgender lunacy.” Trump announced plans to issue executive orders that would reverse policies on gender identity, restrict transgender participation in sports, and redefine the government’s recognition of gender.

“With a stroke of my pen on day one, we’re going to stop the transgender lunacy,” Trump proclaimed, drawing loud applause from the audience. He detailed his intentions to codify gender as strictly “male and female” and to prohibit what he called “child sexual mutilation.”

Trump’s proposed policies include a government-wide recognition of only two genders. “Under the Trump administration, it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” he declared, emphasizing that this move would come on “day one” of his potential return to office.

The former president also criticized what he sees as overreach in gender-affirming medical treatments for minors. “I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation—get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools,” he said.

Another cornerstone of Trump’s speech was his promise to protect women’s sports by barring transgender women from competing against biological women. “We will keep men out of women’s sports,” he stated. “And that will likewise be done on day one.”

Trump argued that allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports could lead to physical harm and unfair competition. “I’ve seen people really hurt,” he said, referencing incidents where biological differences led to injuries in sports.

Trump’s rhetoric aligns with legislation introduced in states like Florida. In March 2023, the Florida House passed HB 1069, which defined sex as an “immutable biological trait.” The bill, later signed into law by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, also barred schools from enforcing preferred pronouns that don’t align with a person’s biological sex.

This state-level push reflects broader conservative efforts to challenge progressive policies on gender identity, particularly in education and athletics. Trump’s alignment with these views positions him as a vocal advocate for a return to traditional definitions of gender and sex.

Trump’s critique wasn’t limited to gender policies. He also lambasted what he called “wokeness” in the U.S. military under President Joe Biden’s administration. During a campaign rally in October, Trump’s team aired a video decrying inclusivity efforts in the military, ending with the slogan, “Let’s make our military great again.”

The video underscored Trump’s broader campaign theme of reversing progressive policies that he believes undermine traditional American values and national strength.

Trump’s remarks at AmericaFest reflect a growing focus on gender issues in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election. By framing his policies as a fight against “lunacy,” he aims to appeal to conservative voters who feel alienated by rapid societal changes surrounding gender and identity.

Critics, however, argue that Trump’s stance could alienate moderate and independent voters. They contend that his rhetoric risks further polarizing an already divided electorate. Nevertheless, his strong position on these issues ensures they will remain central to the national conversation as the election approaches.

Trump’s bold declarations have already reignited fierce debates across the political spectrum. Supporters praise his willingness to take a stand on contentious issues, while opponents decry his comments as inflammatory and dismissive of marginalized communities.

The former president’s focus on gender and identity politics reflects a strategic decision to mobilize his base, particularly in battleground states where cultural issues often play a decisive role. By leaning into these themes, Trump seeks to differentiate himself not only from Democratic leaders but also from potential Republican primary challengers.

As Trump’s campaign gains momentum, his promises to reverse progressive policies on gender will likely become a defining aspect of his platform. Whether his stance helps or hinders his chances in 2024 will depend on how these issues resonate with the broader electorate.

For now, Trump’s fiery rhetoric ensures that debates over gender identity, women’s sports, and cultural policies will remain front and center in American politics. His promises to act decisively, if elected, set the stage for a highly charged election season.
