Former President Donald Trump has lashed out at the Department of Justice (DOJ) after Special Counsel Jack Smith’s motion related to Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election was unsealed.
Trump denounced the move as a politically motivated “hit job” aimed at undermining his 2024 presidential campaign.
The former president took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his outrage, accusing the DOJ of being weaponized by the Democratic Party to interfere in the upcoming election.
Trump’s comments came just after the unsealing of a 165-page motion by Special Counsel Smith, which alleges that Trump and his allies attempted to subvert the 2020 election results.
The unsealing of this motion, according to Trump, was deliberately timed to distract from the recent vice-presidential debate where his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), reportedly outshone Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D). Trump argued that this legal action was meant to deflect attention from what he considered the Democrats’ poor debate performance.
“Democrats are weaponizing the Justice Department against me because they know I am WINNING, and they are desperate to prop up their failing candidate, Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“The DOJ pushed out this latest ‘hit job’ today because JD Vance humiliated Tim Walz last night in the debate. The DOJ has become nothing more than an extension of Joe’s, and now Kamala’s, campaign. This is egregious prosecutorial misconduct and should not have been released right before the election.”
Trump’s fiery social media posts underscore his long-standing claims that the legal proceedings against him are politically driven. He has often framed himself as a victim of a “witch hunt” orchestrated by Democrats in a bid to derail his campaign and his chances of returning to the White House.
In his latest posts, Trump accused the Democratic Party of turning the country into a “Third World Country” by weaponizing the justice system to intimidate political opponents.
“What they have done to our justice system is one of the great, all-time tragedies,” Trump added, reiterating his belief that the DOJ was acting at the behest of the Biden administration to sabotage his 2024 election bid.
The unsealed motion by Special Counsel Smith is part of the ongoing legal battles surrounding Trump’s alleged role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results.
Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed the 165-page document, which details alleged actions taken by Trump and his associates to challenge the election outcome.
The motion focuses on Trump’s state of mind during the aftermath of the election, asserting that he knowingly spread false claims about the election being stolen. ‘
The document suggests that Trump was aware that his claims were unfounded but continued to push the narrative in an attempt to cling to power.
In response, Trump described the filing as “falsehood-ridden” and “unconstitutional.” He claimed that the timing of the release was deliberately designed to coincide with the upcoming election, calling it a blatant example of election interference.
“The release of this falsehood-ridden, unconstitutional brief immediately following Tim Walz’s disastrous debate performance, and 33 days before the most important election in the history of our country, is another obvious attempt by the Harris-Biden regime to undermine and weaponize American democracy,” Trump posted.
Trump also took aim at Jack Smith, labeling the special counsel as “deranged” and accusing him of leading a partisan investigation.
Trump said the DOJ, under the control of “Radical Left Democrats,” was determined to interfere in the 2024 election and accused the department of being obsessed with clinging to power.
“The entire case is a partisan, unconstitutional witch hunt that should be dismissed entirely, just like the Florida case was dismissed!” Trump added, referring to an unrelated case in which charges against him were dropped.
Trump further expanded his critique by claiming that the Democratic Party was guilty of the “worst election interference in American history,” accusing them of allowing millions of illegal immigrants into the country as part of a broader plan to rig the election against him.
“They are determined to stop us from winning back the White House, sealing the border, and making America great again. But they will fail, and we will save our nation!” Trump proclaimed.
The legal battles surrounding Trump have been a focal point of the 2024 presidential election, with Trump facing multiple indictments, including charges related to the events of January 6, 2021.
This latest motion is part of the broader investigation into Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results, a key issue in the various legal proceedings that have ensnared the former president.
Despite the legal challenges, Trump continues to dominate the Republican primary polls, and his supporters remain steadfast in their belief that the charges are politically motivated.
With just weeks left before the 2024 presidential election, the outcome of these legal battles could have a significant impact on the race, as both sides prepare for what is shaping up to be a contentious and pivotal election.
