NYPD Enforces Justice, Arrests Gang Member For Queens Teen Killing

An 18-year-old man was arrested after a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot at a Queens playground, and family members exploded in anger when he was led out of the precinct. The scene outside the 113th Precinct was raw and vocal, bystanders recorded footage, and authorities say the suspect fled to Jamaica before being brought back to face charges.

Police say the victim, 15-year-old Jaden Pierre, was beaten at the park and then shot, prompting a manhunt that ended when officers arrested 18-year-old Zahir Davis. Relatives and community members surrounded the precinct in fury as Davis was escorted outside, forcing officers to restrain people who were shouting at him. The tense scene underscored how close grief and outrage sit to a community that witnessed the violence firsthand.

As Davis was taken for arraignment, prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder, gang assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. His attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, and court papers list serious penalties if convicted. Authorities say the case will move quickly through the system, given the severity of the allegations and the public interest in the outcome.

Family members unloaded on Davis during the so-called perp walk, and the crowd’s shouts were profane and cutting. Those lines of anger were captured and shared by those near the precinct, adding fuel to an already raw public reaction. The exact words shouted at Davis reflected the pain and fury of people who lost a child and demanded answers.

  • “You’re a f**kin’ piece of s**t!”
  • “You’re a f**kin’ bitch!”
  • “You’re a dead man!”
  • “How dare you do that to my nephew!”
  • “Look at my face! I hope they f**k you up every f**kin’ day!”

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Saturday morning .

“NYPD detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested Zahir Davis for the senseless murder of 15-year-old Jaden Pierre in a park in Queens last week,” Tisch wrote on X. “Davis fled to Jamaica following the shooting and was arrested immediately when he landed back in NYC last night.”

Officials say surveillance and cellphone video played a role in reconstructing the attack, and investigators allege Davis pulled a handgun during the beating. Prosecutors contend that while Jaden Pierre lay compromised, the gun was produced and a shot struck the teenager in the chest. Detectives reviewing footage have expressed concern about bystanders who recorded instead of intervening to try to help the victim.

Police allege Davis boarded a flight to Jamaica the day after the killing, an action prosecutors describe as an effort to evade responsibility. Authorities worked with federal partners to locate and apprehend him once he returned to the United States, and family members were urged to encourage his cooperation. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the arrest was the result of coordinated investigative work rather than luck.

Court filings show Davis faces decades behind bars if convicted, with potential exposure to 25 years to life on the murder charge alone. He is due back in Queens criminal court for additional proceedings, where prosecutors will outline their case and defense lawyers will begin to push back. The criminal process is now underway, and the community is watching closely.

Investigators say Davis is a reputed gang member and that the shooting may have been connected to earlier altercations between him and the victim. Some detectives suggested that a struggle over the firearm might have led to an unintentional discharge, though the charges reflect the gravity of the outcome. Those details will be hammered out as evidence is presented at trial.

The victim’s older sister voiced blunt condemnation for those who filmed instead of helping: “everyone there recording did nothing. They treated it all as entertainment. He was already beat up. He was helpless, and they shot him.”

Authorities also say Davis had been accused days earlier of threatening his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child, in a separate incident that led to aggravated harassment charges. That alleged pattern of behavior figures into how prosecutors view the case and the decisions about bail and detention. For now, the focus remains on ensuring a full investigation and letting the courts sort through responsibility and evidence.
