Mike Johnson’s Favorability Falls Below Biden and Harris in New Poll

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is facing a decline in public favorability, with his rating falling below those of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a recent poll by The Economist/YouGov. Johnson’s favorability stands at 30%, compared to Biden’s 40% and Harris’s 44%.

The survey reveals that 36% of respondents view Johnson unfavorably, while a significant 34% are unsure or unfamiliar with him. These numbers mark a slight decline from last month, when Johnson’s approval rating was at 33%, with 34% disapproving of him.

The poll, conducted between December 15 and 17 among 1,553 U.S. adults, coincided with the release of a 1,547-page spending bill negotiated by Johnson. Critics, including Breitbart News’s Hannah Knudsen, described the bill as “full of pork and disappointment.” The poll’s margin of error is ±3.4 percentage points.

Support for Johnson among Republican voters has also taken a hit. In November, 55% of Republicans and 64% of Trump voters approved of Johnson’s performance, with only 18% and 16% disapproving, respectively. By December, these numbers had dropped significantly. The new poll shows that 47% of Republicans and 56% of Trump voters now view Johnson favorably, while 24% and 22% hold unfavorable opinions of him.

This decline in Republican backing is particularly noteworthy as Johnson prepares for his official nomination as Speaker of the House on January 3. He will need the support of the majority of the chamber to retain his position, making the erosion of his base’s approval a potential obstacle.

Johnson’s diminishing favorability ratings highlight the challenges he faces in navigating his role as Speaker. As he works to balance the demands of a fractured Republican Party and the expectations of his constituents, his leadership is under scrutiny from both sides of the political spectrum.

The drop in approval among Republicans and Trump voters suggests growing dissatisfaction with Johnson’s approach to key issues, including his handling of the recent spending bill. Critics argue that the bill failed to deliver on conservative priorities, undermining Johnson’s credibility among his core supporters.

The poll’s findings are particularly striking when compared to the favorability ratings of Biden and Harris. Despite ongoing criticism of the Biden administration’s policies and performance, both Biden and Harris maintain higher approval ratings than Johnson. This contrast underscores the Speaker’s uphill battle in building a positive public image and securing widespread support.

As Johnson prepares for his January 3 nomination, the pressure is on to address the concerns of his party and the broader electorate. Maintaining his position as Speaker will require not only the support of Republican lawmakers but also a renewed effort to win back the confidence of GOP voters.

The upcoming weeks will be critical for Johnson as he seeks to stabilize his leadership and demonstrate his ability to effectively navigate the challenges facing the Republican Party. Whether he can reverse his declining favorability and solidify his standing remains to be seen, but the stakes are higher than ever as he heads into the new year.

The decline in Mike Johnson’s favorability rating is a stark reminder of the volatility of political approval. For a leader tasked with uniting a divided party and addressing the concerns of a skeptical public, the road ahead is fraught with challenges. As Johnson’s leadership is put to the test, the coming months will be crucial in determining his political future and the trajectory of the Republican Party.

Let’s just be honest here. The real conservative voters out there see right through Johnson’s fake conservative facade. He is a DC politician through & through, and he caters to the DC Establishment, not the best interest in American voters. After McCarthy was kicked out of his leadership for being a sellout, I was truly hoping for Jim Jordan to take the reins, but the Establishment did not want to true conservative in the roll. It is time for the Republicans to either get their act together or start voting them all out in hopes of replacing them with real conservatives!!

There are far too many establishment RINO’s in the House to ever vote in a true Conservative
and Jim Jordan has too many enemies to hold the position.
