Las Vegas Police Probe Trump Hotel Cybertruck Blast as Possible Terror Act

Authorities in Las Vegas are investigating a New Year’s Day explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck at the Trump International Hotel, treating the incident as a “possible act of terror.” The blast left one person dead and seven others injured, raising serious questions about the motive behind this dramatic event.

Surveillance footage captured the moment when a load of “fireworks-style mortars” ignited inside the Cybertruck. The vehicle erupted into a series of fiery bursts in the hotel’s porte cochère, spreading panic and chaos among guests and bystanders.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the blast, with Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. “We believe everything is safe now,” McMahill stated during a press briefing, but added, “we don’t know what we don’t know.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined local law enforcement to determine whether the explosion was part of a coordinated attack. Jeremy Schwartz, acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas office, confirmed their involvement during a press conference.

The vehicle fire was reported at approximately 8:40 a.m. local time. Sheriff McMahill described the aftermath: “There is one deceased individual inside the Cybertruck, and I don’t know whether it is a male or a female at this time.”

Seven bystanders sustained minor injuries from the blast, with some treated for burns and others suffering from the shockwave’s impact. The scene was chaotic, with hotel staff and emergency responders working quickly to evacuate the area and extinguish the flames.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk addressed the incident in a statement on his platform, X (formerly Twitter), expressing concern and pledging the company’s full cooperation in the investigation. “The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything,” Musk wrote. “We’ve never seen anything like this.”

Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and son of President-elect Donald Trump, released a statement on X regarding the explosion. He praised the swift response of local authorities:
“Earlier today, a reported electric vehicle fire occurred in the porte cochère of Trump Las Vegas. The safety and well-being of our guests and staff remain our top priority. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Las Vegas Fire Department and local law enforcement for their swift response and professionalism.”

The Trump Organization has also heightened security measures at its properties in the wake of the explosion, citing concerns over potential targeted attacks.

As the investigation unfolds, speculation about the motive behind the attack continues to grow. While authorities have not confirmed whether the deceased individual in the Cybertruck was responsible for the explosion, the use of fireworks-like mortars raises the possibility of premeditation.

The location of the attack—at a hotel bearing the Trump name—has also drawn attention. Political tensions and ideological divisions in the United States have led some to wonder if the incident was an attempt to target the Trump Organization or its clientele.

Several key questions remain unanswered:

  • Was the Cybertruck explosion an isolated incident, or part of a larger plot?
  • Who was the deceased individual, and what was their motive?
  • Could this attack be linked to broader domestic or international terror networks?

Authorities are working to piece together the evidence, but Sheriff McMahill urged patience, noting that investigations of this magnitude take time. “We are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring the safety of our community,” he said.

This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of terrorism and the need for vigilance in public spaces. The Trump International Hotel has long been a high-profile location, and this attack underscores the challenges of securing such sites.

Security experts have suggested that the unique circumstances of the explosion—an electric vehicle being used as the delivery method for explosives—may lead to new protocols for monitoring EVs and their payloads in sensitive areas.

As Las Vegas authorities and the FBI continue their investigation, the city remains on high alert. The Cybertruck explosion has left a lasting impact on residents, visitors, and the nation at large.

President-elect Donald Trump has not yet commented on the incident, but he is expected to address the nation in the coming days, potentially outlining his administration’s approach to counterterrorism efforts.

For now, Las Vegas is left grappling with the fallout of an attack that has shattered the peace of New Year’s Day and reminded the nation of the unpredictable nature of modern threats.
