The United States’ top court has recently issued a set of rulings on various matters, such as gun rights and the use of expert testimony.
However, one of the Supreme Court justices has been noticeably absent from public appearances despite these significant decisions.
CNN reported that Justice Samuel Alito was not present at the Supreme Court on both Thursday and Friday.
This absence at the end of the Court’s term is considered unusual, and no official explanation has been provided.
Meanwhile, New Republic columnist Talia Jane noted how “Alito’s absence poses the possibility that the Supreme Court will have to extend its term into July to complete its decisions for the term.”
This encompasses a ruling in the Supreme Court’s most highly anticipated case, which revolves around the question of whether former President Donald Trump is immune from legal action for his post-2020 election conduct.
Alito has recently garnered attention once again, following controversy surrounding the flying of an upside-down flag outside his house earlier this year, as reported by The New York Times.
Alito clarified that the flag had been raised by his wife.
Additionally, a different Times article highlighted that a flag linked to the American Revolution was also flown outside Alito’s summer home in New Jersey.

Known as the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, it was carried by American patriots during the Revolutionary War and has since been embraced by some conservatives.
Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal and other Democrats condemned the flags, calling on Alito to recuse himself from cases related to Trump or the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.
“I am sad, really sad and shocked to say that Justice Alito is rapidly showing himself to be unfit to serve on the United States Supreme Court,” Breitbart quoted Blumenthal as telling MSNBC last month.
“At a minimum he has to recuse himself from these cases coming before the court that will determine whether or not Trump is held accountable,” the left-wing lawmaker insisted.
The Times reported that despite the complaints, Chief Justice John Roberts has stated that Alito has the authority to determine whether recusal is suitable for himself.
