JD Vance Urged By Joy Behar To Consider Presidential Run

Joy Behar and Vice President JD Vance had a surprise moment on The View that turned into an odd but memorable exchange, with Behar praising Vance’s intelligence and Vance joking about the experience of facing tough TV hosts, sparking buzz and video clips online.

The View hosted a wide-ranging interview where Vance faced sharp questioning on his views and record. He kept his cool and landed a few lines that landed better than the hosts expected. The vibe shifted from combative to oddly cordial before the segment wrapped.

After the taping, Behar told producers she thought Vance had a “good vibe” “for a Republican” and went further, calling him intelligent enough to be an “interesting” presidential candidate. That kind of backhanded compliment from a longtime cohost is the sort of media moment Republicans can use to show their people can hold their ground and still earn respect. It also highlights how a calm, confident conservative can flip the script in a charged studio setting.

The show’s executive producer, Brian Teta, later asked Behar about private comments made off camera, and Teta said Behar advised Vance to run for president. Behar did not deny the claim when it came up, which fed the narrative that even critics sometimes see potential in Republican leaders. That kind of unexpected nod matters when you’re selling competence over chaos.

“I don’t mind a Republican on the city level, because it needs a little discipline. But on the national level, I want somebody with a good heart, and those are more in the Democratic Party in my opinion,” she clarified. She doubled down with value-based reasoning: “They care about the poor. They help people,” Behar claimed. “The Republican Party is much more about saving taxes for rich people. So I’m not a Republican.”

Teta also shared that Vance told producers he was more nervous about appearing on The View than he was about his 2024 vice presidential debate with Gov. Tim Walz. That admission is telling. It says the modern media battlefield can rattle even seasoned politicians, and walking out of that setting with grace is its own kind of win.

“I don’t think that he’s a bad guy. So if he runs against, say, a [California Democrat Gov.] Gavin Newsom, that would be an interesting debate to see those two, because they’re both intelligent,” she added. The remark shows how media moments can soften partisan lines in public perception, even if core policy differences remain. Vance’s steady posture made viewers see him as a person, not just a label.

A video clip of the surprising interaction was posted , where it garnered hundreds of thousands of views. The reach of that clip proves one thing: short, memorable exchanges drive the narrative faster than long policy arguments. For Republicans, moments like this are opportunities to humanize leaders and cut through the noise.

Vance even to their unlikely friendship when he joked about the whole experience during a White House media briefing. His line landed immediately: “I have seen some progressive criticisms of me personally, saying, ‘What experience does the vice president of the United States have with hostile, high-stakes negotiations?'” He then leaned into the moment with the exact punch line the internet ate up: “And I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago, I spent over an hour on ‘The View.’ So I actually have a great experience in very hostile negotiations!” he added. “I mean, look, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians — and she and I are best friends now, so we’re gonna get to a good place.”

Video of his comments also received thousands of views and plenty of reaction from both sides of the aisle. Media stunts aside, the real takeaway is simple: a conservative who can hold his ground and land a line in a hostile environment makes the case for fitness in an unconventional way. That’s the kind of practical politics that resonates with voters tired of performance over substance.
