In a high-stakes military operation, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested 240 terror suspects at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, exposing its alleged use as a Hamas military base. The operation, conducted with surgical precision, uncovered a trove of weapons, including guns, grenades, and ammunition, hidden within the facility. Among those detained was the hospital’s director, who is suspected of being a Hamas operative.
The raid was launched after weeks of intelligence gathering, which identified the hospital as a command center for Hamas operations in Jabaliya. Despite evidence pointing to Hamas’ exploitation of medical facilities for military purposes, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) condemned the operation, citing risks to patient safety. Notably, the WHO did not address Hamas’ actions, which constitute clear violations of international law by endangering civilians and misusing humanitarian infrastructure.
The IDF stated that the operation adhered strictly to international law, prioritizing the safety of patients and medical staff. In the weeks leading up to the raid, 350 patients and medical personnel were evacuated from the hospital in coordination with Israeli authorities. Essential supplies, including tens of thousands of liters of fuel, food, and medical equipment, were also provided to ensure uninterrupted care at alternate facilities.
During the operation, an additional 95 individuals were relocated to the Indonesian Hospital. Evacuation routes were established to allow civilians to leave the area safely, while the IDF deployed advanced precision tactics to minimize harm.
As IDF forces encircled the hospital, Shayetet 13 special forces entered the facility, recovering weapons and military equipment hidden within. Outside the hospital, terrorists launched anti-tank missiles and RPGs at IDF troops, attempting to thwart the operation. The attackers were swiftly neutralized by the IDF, supported by airstrikes targeting terrorists fleeing the scene.
Among the 240 suspects apprehended were key Hamas operatives, including engineers and anti-tank missile specialists, as well as 15 individuals linked to the October 7 massacre in Israel. Many detainees, questioned on-site by Unit 504 and Israel’s internal security agency (ISA), admitted to participating in terror activities.
The Kamal Adwan Hospital is not the first medical facility implicated in Hamas operations. In a similar raid at Gaza’s Shifa Hospital in March, nearly 500 terrorists were arrested, and 200 more were killed, with no civilian casualties reported. Such actions highlight a troubling pattern: Hamas embedding its military infrastructure within civilian areas, in blatant violation of international law.
This tactic extends beyond hospitals. Last week, an Israeli airstrike killed five individuals near a hospital, all identified as Islamic Jihad terrorists despite initial claims they were journalists. Investigations have revealed that several Palestinian journalists, including some from Al Jazeera, are dual agents, simultaneously serving as senior terror operatives.
The WHO’s criticism of Israel’s hospital raid has sparked debate over the organization’s impartiality. While condemning Israel for patient evacuations, the WHO has remained silent on Hamas’ use of medical facilities for military purposes, which endangers both civilians and patients.
The IDF, in response, reiterated its commitment to international law and its focus on protecting civilians while targeting terror networks. “We will continue to act in accordance with international law regarding medical facilities, including those exploited by Hamas for terrorism,” the IDF said in a statement.
The operation at Kamal Adwan Hospital underscores the complexities of modern warfare, where terror groups like Hamas exploit civilian infrastructure to shield their activities. While Israel’s meticulous efforts to minimize harm highlight its adherence to international norms, the international community’s selective condemnation raises questions about accountability and bias.
As the conflict intensifies, the challenge of balancing military objectives with humanitarian concerns becomes increasingly urgent. For now, the IDF’s actions have not only neutralized a significant terror threat but also highlighted the ongoing exploitation of Gaza’s civilian population by those claiming to protect them
