Rep. Randy Fine is sharpening his attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar after a federal filing sparked fresh questions about her identity and immigration history. The dispute now sits at the crossroads of congressional punishment, citizenship rules, and a widening Justice Department probe that has only made the fight louder.
Fine, a Florida Republican and House Freedom Caucus member, said he is ready to push for Omar’s expulsion if federal authorities conclude she committed immigration fraud. He argued that Congress cannot ignore a member’s citizenship status, and he made clear that if an automatic removal does not happen, he wants the House to act fast.
The controversy picked up steam after a court filing reportedly identified Omar under the name “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” while also listing “Ilhan Abdullahi Omar” as an alias. That detail fueled a wave of speculation, but it still does not prove fraud on its own, and the legal threshold for turning suspicion into action remains high.
Fine did not hold back, saying, “I assume that she’s not a citizen, so we might not even have to do that,” Fine said. “You can’t be in Congress if you’re not a citizen of the United States, but if it isn’t automatic, I absolutely will demand expulsion immediately.”
Federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations searched her Washington, D.C., residence on Oct. 12 as part of a separate inquiry into possible false statements on immigration and naturalization documents, and reports later said subpoenas went out to family members while her cellphone was seized.
Fine also made the case that Democrats will circle the wagons if Republicans try to censure or expel Omar. He framed the fight as bigger than one lawmaker, saying, “I don’t think Democrats think you should have to be American. They don’t believe in borders,” Fine said. “They’ve made that clear. They don’t believe in America.”
The House does have the power to expel a member, but that is no small thing. It takes a two-thirds vote, which means raw outrage is not enough, and a criminal allegation alone does not automatically clear someone out of Congress.
Fine also took aim at Rep. Delia Ramirez of Illinois, pointing to her Reimagining Safety Act, a bill that would reshape Homeland Security and eliminate ICE and Customs and Border Protection while shifting some functions into a new agency. In Fine’s telling, the proposal shows the same instinct he says is driving the Omar controversy: a willingness to weaken enforcement and blur the lines around borders.
He said, “Look at this bill filed by the congresswoman from Chicago, where she doesn’t believe we should have borders, border protection or the ability to deport anyone,” Fine said.
Another layer in the dispute is the separate financial disclosure inquiry involving Omar. Fine pointed out that the investigation began under the Biden administration in 2024, arguing that Democrats have been eager to call the newer immigration probe political while skipping over the older case.
That claim adds another jolt to an already ugly political brawl, especially since Omar’s office has not publicly responded to the latest request for comment. For Republicans like Fine, the broader message is simple: if a member of Congress is under a real cloud, they want the issue dragged into the open and forced into daylight.

The Democrats antipathy and downright antagonism towards the US is exemplified in their support of this woman. She falsified her name and birthdate to come to America, made effortes to clarify the records while in office and is unquestionably guilty of financial malfeasance –BUT SHE IS A DEMOCRAT SO IT IS OK! Her father was guilty of war crimes and lied about his name and history to come here. Her family is suspected to fraudulent behavior since being her. BUT SHE IS A DEMOCRAT SO IT IS OK! What is wrong with this party cannot be fixed. They are totally corrupt.
