Former NBA player Marcus Morris found himself in a bit of hot water recently when he was arrested on a fraud charge in Florida. The charge stemmed from writing a check with insufficient funds, and he was picked up at the airport. The Broward County arrest records indicate that the issue originated in another state, and Morris is currently being held without bond.
His twin brother, Markieff Morris, who also played in the NBA, took to social media to express his frustration over the situation. “The wording is crazy. Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family,” Markieff wrote. He elaborated, “They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud s—. They could have came to the crib for all that.”
Markieff promised more clarity would come soon, hinting that there’s more to the story than meets the eye. “When y’all hear the real story on this s— man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird s— gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothin!” he added. It’s not the first time Marcus has faced legal issues.
Back in 2012, Marcus entered a diversion program after being charged with battery in Kansas. He and his brother, Markieff, were also charged with aggravated assault in 2015, but they were both found not guilty. Marcus began his NBA journey as a first-round pick in 2011 with the Houston Rockets.
After a season in Houston, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns during the 2012-13 season. His career saw him bounce around the league, playing for teams like the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Marcus last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, wearing the number 24 jersey. He warmed up with the team during the 2024 NBA playoffs before stepping away from the league after the 2023-24 season. Despite his recent troubles, Marcus has been a notable figure in the NBA over the years.
His journey through various teams has been marked by both challenges and successes. From his start in Houston to his final days in Cleveland, Marcus’s career has been a rollercoaster. His brother, Markieff, has often been by his side, both on and off the court.
