DOJ Charges Three Over Assault On Reporter Savanah Hernandez

The Justice Department has charged three relatives after Turning Point USA Frontlines reporter Savanah Hernandez says she was attacked while covering an anti-ICE protest in Minnesota, and conservatives are praising federal action as a long overdue response to violent left-wing mobs. The story centers on video evidence, public reaction from Hernandez and host Sara Gonzales, and a family member’s media appearances that contrast sharply with what the footage shows.

Savanah Hernandez says she was shoved to the ground while reporting, and prosecutors moved quickly to bring federal charges. “I never thought that I would say it in my life, but thank you to the FBI. I am very grateful for them. This is the same organization that we watched, you know, weaponized against innocent American citizens over the last four years with the prior administration,” Hernandez tells BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales on “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered.” That line gets to the core of why many on the right feel vindicated: effective federal law enforcement when it actually protects citizens.

Hernandez emphasized that the DOJ and FBI took fast action. “So to see the FBI actually utilize to bring forward justice against violent criminals is very refreshing to see. The DOJ was very swift in handling this and bringing it before a grand jury so that these indictments could be brought forward,” she continues, adding, “And I’m very grateful for that.” The gratitude is plain and political, because it comes after years of complaints that big agencies ignored attacks on conservative voices.

Gonzales echoed that sentiment, making a clear partisan contrast about how responses can differ under different administrations. “If this had happened under the Biden administration, never in a million years, in my opinion, would they have gone to the lengths that this DOJ and FBI have gone to,” Gonzales says. That view reflects broader skepticism among conservatives about selective enforcement and cultural double standards in how protest violence is handled.

Hernandez said this wasn’t a one-off for her; it’s part of a pattern that, she claims, used to be glossed over. “This is not the first time I’ve been this violently mobbed, by the way, but it is the first time the FBI and the DOJ have actually cared about it and paid attention to it,” she says, pointing out that the old attitude of the federal government is what she believes “led to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.” Her point is blunt: ignoring repeated attacks only invites escalation and emboldens violent actors.

Hernandez warned about how permissive local policies have consequences beyond a single incident. “Just the complete ignorance of how violent the left-wing is and also the fact that these left-wing jurisdictions have allowed it to happen again and again and again to the point where these protesters think that they can get away with this type of behavior,” she explains. That argument ties the episode to a larger debate over law and order and how communities and officials respond to mob tactics.

Despite video that appears to show a man shoving Hernandez, the accused family gave interviews portraying themselves as victims of doxxing and public pressure. “It’s not just us. It’s my sons, their wives, like people who had nothing to do with anything. It’s a little overwhelming and makes me second guess even living in this country to be honest with you,” he added. That defense tends to ring hollow when visual evidence contradicts the narrative pushed in media appearances.

Sara Gonzales mocked the family’s excuse by repeating what the father said on camera and pointing out the obvious mismatch with the tape. “He’s like, ‘I just pushed a woman for literally no reason. A woman who was leaving, I just pushed to the ground and somehow I’m the victim,’” Gonzales mocks. Conservatives will see that moment as emblematic of a culture that too often excuses or minimizes physical attacks against journalists or political opponents.

Hernandez summed up the bitter irony facing many conservatives who report from hostile ground. “I guess this is the fascist America that the left-wing is talking about,” Hernandez says, adding, “You can’t even brutally assault a woman who is not threatening you anymore without getting the feds involved.” Her words capture a mixture of sarcasm and relief: sarcasm at the left’s warnings about authoritarianism, and relief that federal law enforcement finally stepped in to enforce basic safety.

The episode is a microcosm of broader battles over protest, press freedom, and accountability. Video evidence and federal indictments have shifted the immediate story from a local scuffle to a federal matter, and the GOP view is clear: when authorities follow the evidence and act, public safety and civil liberties are protected. That’s the takeaway many conservatives will press as they watch how the case unfolds in court and in public opinion.
