Taral Patel, a 30-year-old Democratic candidate for Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner, was taken into custody and charged with felony online impersonation and misrepresentation of identity.
Patel’s aspirations for a prominent political position came crashing down as thorough investigations by local authorities exposed his web of deceit.
It was revealed that Patel had fabricated social media profiles to spread derogatory and racist comments, falsely attributing them to supporters of his political opponent.
This manipulation was designed not only to undermine his Republican rival but also to sway public opinion in his favor by portraying himself as a victim.
Patel, who could face two to 10 years in prison, was arrested by the Texas Rangers during a traffic stop on Wednesday, June 12, according to Covering Katy.
Patel is facing charges of two counts of Felony Online Impersonation and one Class A misdemeanor charge of Misrepresentation of Identity, as stated in the arrest warrant. These charges are in violation of the Texas Election Code.
The warrant indicates that Patel’s deceptive activities were directed towards his Democratic primary opponent, Abrahim Javed, and his general election opponent, Republican Andy Meyers.
Allegedly, Patel’s deceptive behavior commenced in October 2022 when he purportedly utilized the identity of a Needville resident named Patrick Ernst to establish a Facebook page under the pseudonym Antonio Scalywag.
The Scalywag account professed loyalty to Donald Trump and regularly posted favorable remarks about prominent Republican leaders, while consistently showing disdain for a specific Republican figure, Andy Meyers.
As the election heated up, Scalywag started endorsing Meyers while also making derogatory and racist comments, falsely suggesting that Meyers’ supporters were predominantly racist.
“I am against false gods and their worshippers (sic) winning office in a Christian nation. I am with Meyers ALL THE WAY because he serves Jesus, unlike Patel and his followers who worship Monkey and Elephant,” one Scalywag post said.

Patrick Ernst was brought in for questioning at the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office after suspicions arose regarding his involvement.
Affiant, the investigating officer, met with Ernst on February 2, 2024, and confirmed his identity through official databases and documents.
During the interview, Ernst admitted to being the person depicted in a photo used on the Facebook account of Antonio Scalywag.
He explained that the photo, featuring himself and his wife, was originally posted on his wife’s business website.
