That defense now collides with his own handwriting, which bluntly notes “HRC plan to tie Trump.” This is not an ambiguous phrase; it’s a direct, contemporaneous observation that contradicts later claims of forgetfulness.

The notes point to a probable source as well — marked in the jottings as “JB,” widely understood to be then-CIA Director John Brennan. That attribution stacks with Brennan’s own declassified notes suggesting intelligence chatter about political motives. Two sets of internal notes, created by senior intelligence officials, lining up on the same point is more than coincidence; it’s corroboration that demands follow-up.

The political and legal stakes are obvious. Documents that show a senior FBI official acknowledging a partisan plot undercut the credibility of investigatory choices made in 2016 and beyond.
