Brandon Johnson, invoking the Confederacy, is hoping Chicagoans are as ignorant about history as he is. Southern states quit the Union, as was their right, just as colonials like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and so many other brave patriots did, seceding from the British empire, when they fought the American Revolution. Our Founding Fathers enshrined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights some precious freedoms, including the First Amendment’s “freedom of association.”
The biggest fallacy often taught about Civil War history is that Lincoln launched the war to free slaves. If that were true, he would have freed slaves in April 1861 when he triggered the conflict at Fort Sumter, not in 1863, after he’d been firing generals and losing battles. His famous Emancipation Proclamation didn’t free a single slave in ANY Union slave-owning state, or in any territory the Union controlled. Lincoln’s home state, Illinois, was busy passing repressive laws during this era, to keep blacks from stepping foot in Illinois. Lincoln wanted to deport freed slaves– to send them to Haiti or Liberia, any country that would take them– he sought an ethnic purge and supported the Colonization Society to send slaves away. Brandon Johnson should try to learn his own state’s history.
Alarmism, emotional appeals and fake history lessons are no way to confront our modern challenges. America has a very generous legal immigration policy- which is why 1 out of every 9 or 10 people in America is foreign-born. But Democrats want unvetted illegal alien immigration- Open Borders, which has brought in felons, sex/drug traffickers, terrorists, spies, rapists and pedophiles. Two hundred Americans die every day from Chinese fentanyl (what killed George Floyd) being produced in Mexico- think about that statistic when you see a protestor flying a Mexican flag. Democrats will continue to lose elections, embracing Open Borders and refusing to acknowledge the surge in crime and chaos from illegal immigration since Americans are not deceived about the threat from illegal aliens to our quality of life and to our public safety.
