Brad Raffensperger, the Republican Secretary of State for Georgia, has thrown his hat into the ring for the governor’s race. “I’m a conservative Republican, and I’m prepared to make the tough decisions. I follow the law and the Constitution, and I’ll always do the right thing for Georgia no matter what,” he declared in his campaign announcement video. He’s got a strong vision for Georgia, pushing a “bold conservative agenda” that includes eliminating the state income tax and capping property taxes for seniors.

Raffensperger’s platform also focuses on banning puberty-blocking drugs and cleaning up “woke curriculums” from schools. He’s aiming to work with Trump to increase jobs and deport illegal immigrants with criminal records, while also promising to “restore law and order.” Despite the turbulence of the 2022 elections, where he won reelection even without Trump’s endorsement, Raffensperger is pressing forward with his campaign.

In June, the Georgia GOP made waves by voting to ban Raffensperger from running under their party’s banner. However, the party chairman mentioned this attempt might not hold water. The gubernatorial race is shaping up to be a crowded field, with several notable Republicans also vying for the nomination.

Among the Republican contenders are Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and state Attorney General Chris Carr. Jones has the backing of Trump, having served as a Trump alternate elector in 2020. Carr, on the other hand, stood with Raffensperger in rejecting challenges to the 2020 election results.

Clark Dean, Scott Ellison, and Gregg Kirkpatrick are also in the mix for the GOP gubernatorial primary election in 2026. The competition among Republicans is expected to be fierce, reflecting the diverse conservative voices within the state. Across the aisle, Democrats are also gearing up for a significant primary battle.

Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is among the top Democrats seeking the gubernatorial seat. She is joined by state Sen. Jason Esteves and former state Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. Each of them brings their own experiences and perspectives to the race.

Interestingly, Geoff Duncan, who stood with Raffensperger over the 2020 election results, has launched his campaign for governor as a Democrat. As the former Republican lieutenant governor, his switch is notable in the political landscape of Georgia. This move adds another layer of complexity to the upcoming elections.

With Raffensperger’s campaign focused on cutting taxes and promoting a conservative agenda, the race is sure to attract a lot of attention. His commitment to working with Trump on key issues highlights his dedication to conservative principles. As the campaign unfolds, Georgia voters will be closely watching each candidate’s moves.

The primary elections will serve as a critical test for both parties in Georgia. The state’s political dynamics have been shifting, and this governor’s race is a crucial opportunity for Republicans to solidify their agenda. Meanwhile, Democrats are eager to present a strong challenge.

The backdrop of the 2020 election challenges continues to influence Georgia’s political scene. Raffensperger’s role in those events underscores his commitment to upholding the law and the Constitution. His decision to run for governor signals his resolve to lead Georgia with steadfast conservative values.

In the coming months, candidates will be crisscrossing the state, making their case to voters. The issues at stake are significant, and each candidate will need to articulate their vision clearly. For Raffensperger, this race is about more than just winning; it’s about championing a conservative future for Georgia.

As the gubernatorial race heats up, expect to see more debates and discussions on key policies. The candidates’ stances on taxes, education, and law enforcement will be under the microscope. Georgia’s voters will have the final say in choosing the leader who aligns with their values.
