Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a monumental victory against drug trafficking, highlighting one of the largest fentanyl busts in U.S. history.

Authorities seized 11.5 kilos of fentanyl, equating to about 3 million pills, marking a significant win in the ongoing battle against the opioid crisis. In addition to the fentanyl, the operation led to the confiscation of 35 kilos of methamphetamine, 7.5 kilos of cocaine, 4.5 kilos of heroin, $5 million in cash, and 49 firearms.

Sixteen individuals, including three women, were arrested during this extensive operation. Notably, six of the apprehended men were identified as living in the U.S. illegally. This massive bust underscores the relentless efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking and protect American communities from the dangers of illicit substances.

The operation was linked to the notorious Sinaloa Cartel, with its leader, Alberto Salazar Amaya, residing in Salem, Oregon. Drugs from this cartel were being distributed across Albuquerque, New Mexico, Phoenix, Arizona, and Utah. Bondi proudly declared, “We’re very proud to announce today a historic Sinaloa Cartel arrest.”

Conducted by the DEA and supported by local, state, tribal, and federal partners, this bust targeted one of the most dangerous drug trafficking and foreign terrorist organizations. The monumental seizure of fentanyl signifies a crucial step in the fight against drug-related fatalities. “The DEA seized 11.5 kilos of fentanyl, including an astounding approximately 3 million fentanyl pills,” Bondi emphasized.

Each fentanyl pill was falsely labeled as oxycodone, posing an extreme risk to unsuspecting users. The operation’s success was visibly shared through posters depicting the defendants and seized firearms at a Washington D.C. news conference. Bondi extended her praise to the DEA agents, acknowledging their bravery and dedication to making the streets safer.

Describing fentanyl as a “weapon of mass destruction,” Bondi issued a stern warning to drug dealers spreading this deadly poison. The message was clear: those involved in such activities would face severe legal consequences. “When we catch you like all of these individuals, if convicted, we will put you behind bars,” Bondi stated firmly.

The Attorney General made it clear there would be no leniency for those endangering American lives. Bondi expressed no intention to deport the illegal migrants involved back to Mexico. She firmly stated that if convicted, they would remain in American prisons, potentially even in facilities like Alcatraz.

This operation marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing effort to dismantle powerful drug cartels. The amount of drugs and weapons seized highlights the scale of the threat posed by these criminal organizations. Bondi’s commitment to justice ensures that those responsible will face the full force of the law.

The resilience and coordination displayed by law enforcement agencies have undoubtedly dealt a significant blow to the Sinaloa Cartel. The operation’s success is a testament to the unwavering determination to protect American lives. As Bondi stated, “There will be no negotiating, and we will lock you up for as long as humanly possible.”

This monumental bust serves as a reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking. However, it also showcases the strength and dedication of those working tirelessly to combat this menace. The seizure of such a large quantity of fentanyl and other drugs is a reassuring achievement for communities nationwide.

While the battle against drug trafficking continues, victories like this provide hope and a sense of security. The efforts of law enforcement agencies are crucial in ensuring safer streets and healthier communities. The unwavering commitment to justice and public safety remains a guiding force in this ongoing struggle.
